zx14 rattle when first started ?

love the bike but i am noticeing a rattle when i first start it up just for a couple of seconds and then it goes away and will not do it till the falling day or when it sits over night ,it only does it when it is stone cold, my buddy say it might be the cam chain adjuster, ? anybody got any ideas? burt

It is controlled by oil pressure and there is none until the oil gets-a-flowin'

i had the same thing. changed from 5-30 to10-30 and it hasnt happened yet again. if it sat for more then 8-10 hrs it would sound like it had no oil for a split second. but no more.

On mine there is a rattel on the first start up of the day to. On mine it is the VDS sensor under the wind screen.

The Vehicle Down Sensor is on RECALL! Check your mail and read the threads written earlier for a home fix (u'll have to search) or take your bike to Kawasaki. I hope you already knew this!

Actually, it's not RECALLED. There is a tech svc bulletin about checking the mounting nuts. That's all...

When I took mine in for it's first service I told the service department I already did the update on the vds(yes I did). Asked them not to mess with it(don't want no scratches from them). When picked it up they said they checked it and it was fine. WTF!! Anyway read the other threads on this and how they quieted it. I didn't used to hear it and now I do. It must be gittin louder. I could only hear it without a helmet when new, now with 1500 on the odo I hear it all the time

socal Thanks but I found out about it on the net and called the dealer where I bought it and they said they had not yet seen the service bulletin. What the news is on the net and you have not read yours yet. That should have been taken care of before I rode it out. Bullshit could have left me on the side of the road without a clue. Hate to gripe but I will say I don't use them for my service.
