Stainless turns color with heat and age. Nothing to be concerned about. KMC uses a heavy gauge on their oem systems with lots of gusseting for added strength.

could that be the result of running too lean on fuel?

Nope. All SS headers turn color. Forget it and go ride your bike. ____________

You want to see consistent bluing among the cylinders. It's much less of an issue with F.I. .
Back in the days of carb's we'd often troubleshoot by looking at the bluing and temp of the individual header pipes (sizzle method from a spray bottle). Sounds weird today but it's the quickest way to pick out a cylinder that's limping. ____________

My entire brocks exhaust is lighter than just the stock header, never mind the mid pipes/cans! ____________

If you tuned from the color of the header pipes, it was kinda like shutting the barn door after the cow done left. Back in the carb days, you always tuned by pulling the plugs.

KHI stuff is definately heavy...but its really poor grade stainless. When I took mine off to put the brocks system on, the factory header pipes had a light dusting of rust starting on them. Hmm stainless....junk. LOL
