NUVI on the 14?

I used a Magellan GPS to figure out my speed error, but have since sold it off. I really like the looks, size and ergos of the Nuvi, and wondered if anyone has tried something this thin and small on the 14 and where they mounted it. Ultimately I would like a mount system for an Escort and GPS (like the Nuvi), but the cockpit is just a bit cramped for all of this at this point. I know of the techmount, but the Nuvi is pretty small and probably could just strap/velcro so the steering.

I bought a DeLorme Blue Logger back around Christmas, that little thing is handy! I didn't need anything with a display at the time (wasn't trying to correct speedo error), my main purpose was to log my routes, distances, speed, and save them to print maps for other people interested in similar routes. It's pretty cool because you don't have to mess with anything complicated, just turn it on, toss it under the seat or in your tank bag and go for a ride. Once you return home, connect via bluetooth, download the data, and map it. Pretty cool.

You can do real-time if you want... I've used my Treo 650 with the Blue Logger app running to monitor real-time stuff in the car, use turn-by-turn directions, real-time maps, etc. It's really a very handy device, and it's nearly bullet-proof. Perfect for motorcycle use. Quite a bit cheaper than the all-in-one solutions too, but you must have a bluetooth PDA or notebook computer to do anything with it.

Team,
I have my NUVI mounted in my car. Good unit. Maybe the best, depending on Garmin's software.
It's so small and light I'm sure it will mount anywhere. Main reason I picked it.
Super compact.
But it's not weatherproof. Too Bad.
So I would mount it inside my tank bag top window.
It has a li/ion battery w/pretty good life. Completely touch screen operated also.

Thanks for the review, it pretty much echos alot of what I have read. It probably won't be too difficult to find an MP3 all weather case to fit it, or make one. I don't take long trips on my bike, so it being so small, if it looks bad, I would just put it away. I really like the new chipset for the GPS acquisition found on this unit, all the others I have tried have been too laggy to acquire the triangulation.

Really curious as to what Fish and group have up their sleeves for the next reviews, love the reviews being performed!

ZerMatt - I like! I'll have to check one out! I gots the Treo 650 as well, so I'm halfway there. Love the idea of being able to just toss it in a tank bag.

swft - If you're looking for logging with future data review, that little thingy is just the ticket! It's simple and it works, no questions asked. It works with the Treo using their "handheld" version of the software, so make sure you buy the correct kit.

The kit I bought included the handheld version as well as the full desktop version for my laptop. I've used it for turn-by-turn in the car with my Treo, and while it got the job done, it was a little clumsy. It's definitely NOT up to par with the latest (and MUCH more expensive) turn-by-turn all-in-one GPS units, but for the occasional need, it's ok. When using with the Treo, you can do turn-by-turn on maps, or you can simply display data screens like speed, altitude, heading, etc.

This is the kit I bought. It includes the Bluelogger, Street Atlas USA 2006, and Street Atlas USA 2006 Handheld for $179. Not a bad deal really.

Oh, and if you haven't used any of DeLorme's map software before, be prepared for a relatively sharp learning curve. I think their interface was designed by someone with Autocad background, not a windows background. Just be warned...

I saw that...

I've had both Delorme and Garmin software for awhile now. If I'm on a bike, not interested in real time stuff, and if I'm in the Ridgeline, it's got kickass GPS built in, so no worries.

Garmin's prices are just getting rediculous...Everything's getting to cost a grand or more...ouch!

swft...that's BS, premium Garmin products can be had well under that...I'm a Garmin distributor in Canada...a large one, and I know that for a fact...in fact, their pricing is always dropping, not going up. You can buy the 2720 in the US for well under 1K. It's unbeatable in it's class in every way you can think of...and that's a waterproof bike unit...preloaded with all of N/A and 6 million POI's.
