Trunk?
Does the 14 have a trunk space like the 12r does? I've looked through all the pics, and can't find any with the seat off. Anyone have any pics?
I sure wish the 14 had seperate seats like the 12. And green would definately sell me. Damn, now I have to paint a brand new bike, and stick the 12 subframe on it. Lol!

There is an area where you can put items under the seat on the '14. It's behind the bar/brace, but in front of the seat latch. That space seems to be perfectly suited for a PC. I would estimate that you could fit a 20oz water bottle-sized item there, and maybe a pack or two of smokes. I've carried my digital camera there, wrapped up in a small towel, and it still moves around a bit, so it's not tight.
A person could probably build a little plastic box much like the 14's tool kit box and put it behind the bar/brace. That would make a handy little storage container, and keep smaller bits from sliding around and falling out into the rear tire area.
Here's a pic that zxbob posted where he stuck his pc there. The space isn't "deep" when you look at it, but if you flip the seat over, you'll see a large-ish area carved out from the underside of the seat that allows for quite a bit of clearance. Maybe 3" or so total hight, and the width of the compartment. Just look at the hight of the brake reservior and you'll get the idea. You could have something that tall going across the entire area.

Thanks for the pic. Not quite as bad as I thought it might be.

Maybe in Canada they call purses "wallets". If that is the case, you probably couldn't fit much more than a set of keys and a "wallet"

when I rode the 14 in vegas the only way I could get my small canon camera and wallet under the seat was to remove the toolkit... how are you getting more room? I even posted pix.

Remove the tool kit and the tool kit enclosure. The enclosure breaks up the little space that you have. You will never fit a 6-pack in there (like those early/mid-90s CBR900RRs). But, you can certainly fit more than a wallet and keys.

Then you left the space that I'm talking about completely empty. The toolkit does not need to be emptied to carry a camera and a wallet.
Wait until you can spend more than a few minutes looking under the seat of a ZX-14 and you will understand. The cavity doesn't show up well in these photos because it's actually created by a recess in the seat pan above it. If you lift the seat and look, you'll think there's no room, but if you start to put the seat back in place, then look up under the seat, it will become crystal clear.
The tool kit is behind the primary seat latch, and measures approx 2.25" high x 3.75" wide x 7.625 long. The area in front of the latch that I'm talking about (where the PC is in the photo above) could hold a similar, but slightly larger container measuring 2.75" high x 4" wide x 8" long. I may just buy a 2nd tool kit box from Kawi and screw it there - it would look completely stock and nobody would know the difference. It still wouldn't be waterproof, but it would work fine in dry weather.

I knew what you were alluding too, I ended up looking under the seat this morning. What we need is a plastic bin that fits completely in that area with a lid.

The space that all of you are refering to is where the charcoal canister for the emissions sits on the California spec zx-14s. I took some photos with a ruler by the cannister that sits there (for now) on my bike. But I dont know how to post them. it is 2 inches high by 6 inches wide and about 4 inches front to back.

I figured that space was there for a reason, but those of us with the 49-state models didn't get any hint of why it was there. There's a little relay that's sort of in the way, but it could be relocated a little to give access to the full 8" of width - I can bend my relay out of the way pretty easily, but it's not a permanent solution.
Either way, it's a great place to carry the tire plug kit, CO2 bottles, bungee net, wallet, cell phone, camera, etc. If we added a plastic box like the tool kit box, it would reduce the amount of usable space, but at least it would keep things from shifting around.
