Engine knock??

Heard some complaints about an engine knocking noise on another forum. Anybody experienced anything like this with their 14??

I've heard knocking noises, but with my full extended warranty my dealer mechanic assured me its nothing. He did a full diagnostic test, and said not to worry. I'm no mechanic, but at idle in neutral, it sounds bad at times. I always let my engine warm up properly, never hit high Rpm's until full temp is
reached, and no redline yet. I check my oil, tire pressure, etc. before each ride. Still hear the noises. I only began to notice them when I wear my bean helmet, not with my full face.

I get the clutch noise too, but my FI chatter is also louder than it ought to be. Oh well... the price we pay for performance, right?

you could be hearing piston slap

depends on what temp range your engine is in
start up idle or stop lite idle

usually nothing to worry about
not even a sign of future problems

When starting the 14 cold almost everyone I talk to has a knock. I am
pretty sure it is the timimg chain tensioner. Or atleast that's my opinion.

I only hear a noise for about 2-3 seconds on startup... Any more than that and I would be concerned

I get the startup knock. Agree with Vak that its the cam chain tensioner. Nothing that I'm worried about. Otherwise the engine is quite with the exception of the FI clicking away.

could be the cam chain tensioner

except there is nothing in the chain path to knock
& if your valves are hitting or clacking that hard
dont run the engine

when an engine cranks
the skirts on the piston will
slap the cylinders.......sounds like a knocking
until the walls are oiled down or the engine warms up
& the tolerances close

of course neither are anything to worry about
unless prolonged or it gets louder

good luck

Just bought a used 08 Connie with 20k/mi and noticed the knock at start up. Good to know its nothing to worry about. However, I opened it up on an on-ramp this morning and noticed a knock under hard acceleration. The bearing issue bothers me some and the valves tightening over time that might be the cause as well. Do these bikes have bearing problems?
