Pitbull pull forward stand review

I got my pretty new pitbull pull forward stand the other day. Installed the pretty blue spools, adjusted the stand to fit the ZX14, then positioned it to lift the bike. Bike's not going up, wtf, over?? I pull for all im worth, which isn't very much for a 40 something guy, but it should be enough, bike's still not budging. I fiddled with it somemore figuring maybe it's hitting the rear tire and i'm just defeating myself, no dice. The arm is too short for one person, of average strengh, to lift the back of the bike. There is just not enough leverage. I had a friend over, and it took two of us, and quite some effort to get the sumbitch up.
I'll either be returning the stand, which is a pain in the ass because I threw out the box, or selling it. What a disappointment.
Any suggestions on a one person stand??? I liked the idea of the pull forward as I could stand next to the bike and hold the handle bars with one hand to steady it. I don't want to drop the bike just putting it up on a freaking stand. And I don't want to pay 300 bucks for one of those fancy one person jack stands.

Are you talking about a front or rear stand?

I believe it is the rear stand (talks about spools), but it is the stand that you lift from the front of the bike instead of the typical stands that stick out the back of the bike. It sounds like the lever arm is not long enough to make this a reasonable stand for the 14.

Is there a way to add a longer armature extension (hollow metal tube, or jack extension handle)? Or can you use your foot to push down while holding the handlebars, or is it too far of a reach to hold the bars and get your leg into a position to push on the bar?

I use one I bought from jandy which is simple. It just fits the spools. I then have the pitbull in the front where the speciality is needed. The rear stand was only about 80 bucks and works great on the 14 and my Mille.

Might be a dumb question but why a rear stand lifted from the front?

I ordered the new "forward handle" rear Pit Bull stand from my local Cycle Gear store last week, it should arrive any day now. We'll see if I can get enough leverage on it - if my 250+ can't do it, it's not possible.

The picture shows a hollow handle, so I would think that a person could add some "leverage" if necessary. I'll try it out and let everyone know.

My primary interest in this forward handle rear stand is so that I don't have to trip over the handle every time I walk behind the bike while it's jacked up. We'll see...

I may be overstating the obvious here, but unless you change the angle of the handle, any cheater that you add for leverage will lessen the amount of breakover past center that you will have and increase the possibility of losing the bike from the stand. Sorry, I just don't want to hear that someones bike fell off the stand or worse fell on them over a simple mistake in geometry.

I store my bike at all times on a rear pit bull and a front chock from Baxley. The Baxley Companies sport chock is a fabulous product. Just ride on and hop off. The bike stands straight up....I then put the pit bull (adjusted all the way out) under the rear spools and up it goes.

BTW, the chock is NOT bolted to the ground, but can be moved or even put in a truck for towing. Great product....about $242 delivered from Indy SuperBikes.

You are confusing the hell out of me.

You don't "pull" the forward handle rear stand you load it on the spools and then push it down with your foot. But the time your foot is on it the bar should be at about 10:30.

Sounds like you didn't adjust the height on the stand.

That just *might* be obvious, but without a stand I can't confirm or deny that. It all depends on how close to center it is when you have to apply force. It also depends on whether or not this stand is height adjustable. If the arms are too high, and cannot be lowered, you are correct in the assumption that no additional leverage on the handle will help. If, on the other hand, the arms are low enough already, and it simply requires more strength to lift the bike, then a longer handle may help.

Don't worry about me - I won't be dumping my bike over in the garage in an attempt to mount a rear stand... or at least if I do, I sure as heck won't be posting that information up here!

Now why would I push the handle with my foot??? It said Pull Forward, as in you pull the handle forward with your hand. This thing is impossible to pull forward much. Maybe I'm missing something here, but the instructions clearly show a dude with his hand on the handle, pulling it. The handle does not have a hole in the center, so no cheeter bar, not that it would help.
I'm gonna find a box and try to sell mine or send it back. The price??? I'll take retail plus shipping.
blitzkrieg, do you have one of these stands??? Maybe when I get the bike back I'll mess with it somemore.

No bro, I've got the rear lift stand.

I thought what I'd heard was you adjust the lift so that it just raises your rear tire off the ground and at that point the arm is easy to push to the floor with your foot. Maybe I'm thinking of a different stand?

That being said, every Pitbull product I've ever used has been A1 quality. If you aren't happy, give them a call. They are good people.

Are you sure you got the vertical slides adjusted properly?

I think so. Bikes being worked at right now at a friends shop. I have it adjusted all the way up, so it shouldn't be hitting the rear tire.

I think you are missing what I am saying. You want the height adjusted as LOW as it can be and still get the rear tire off the ground. That way you are not dead-lifting the bike off the ground but using the geometry of the stand to lift it.

I.e, the handle should be around 11:00 o'clock by the time the tangs hit the spools.

If your tangs are hitting the spools after you've lifted the handle just off the ground or before 12:00 o'clock you've definitely got the height set way too high.

By the way, my stand arrived at Cycle Gear today, but I couldn't get by to pick it up. I'll have it tomorrow and will investigate for myself... time for the 2nd oil change, got almost 3,000 miles on it now. Got Royal Purple Max Cycle 20w-50 and a Pure One on deck ready to go!
