Kawasaki FI Question
I've owned 3 VFR's with FI and every one of them were pretty loud when new, and as miles were added they would slowly start to quiet. I've always thought the 14's FI were a little louder than maybe it should be, keeping in mind it has never really been a problem. This bike has always done what I expected. My concern is the different sounds the FI makes. Idle, Low RPM and High RPM all have a different sound. This is my first Kawasaki with FI so,
Question 1: Will the FI quiet on the 14 over time? This Question is more for those who own/owned a ZX12.
Question 2: With a smaller V4 engine 781cc engine, the FI may not need the energy the Kaw's 1352cc engine will need, thus this FI may never quite?
Am I'm making a mountain out of a molehill?
Thanks in advance.

That noise is loud enough to make a casual observer think that there is oil starvation or a rod knock. Maybe we can add some rail isolation or upgrade the fuel damper to reduce the noise?

Put a pipe on it, better yet a megaphone , you'll never hear the injectors ticking at 70 decibels again !
Come on guys, the nit picking is getting a little out of hand.
I had to make a serious effort to hear them at idle parked at the lights....with stock exhaust
its perfectly normal.- .
I can't imagine buying a 200 hp motorcycle and then whinning about fuel injector ticking.
Or any bike for that matter.....
If you think ours makes alot of mechanical noise ride an old air cooled pan head harley.
Its a mechanical piece of machismo.
A raw mechanical device, meant for exhilaration and propulsion
RIDE THE FUCKER!
BTW my injectors could never be mistaken for a rod knock!
The clutch rattle is the loudest mechanical noise coming from my bike.
Every one of does it.
Better have your rod bearings inspected!
That or buy a lexus and keep the windows rolled up!

dubious,
That's all I needed to hear. I suspected your thinking all along, but a second opinion is always nice. I should be approching 10,000 miles next month and I'd hate to start a major trip with a problem.

right on Zx61114 !
I'm glad I was not taken the wrong way.
The truth is bikes very rarely fail these days, tooling, assembly and and casting is much more accurate than even 10 years ago.
We're sitting on top of 4 cylinders producing 200 crank HP, and a gear box stout enough to handle it too, and more hard launches than we ever imagined a stock clutch could take.
It gonna be a little noisy!
10,000 miles! right on!
How many miles you get out of the rear tire?
I might get 1500 (burnout less) miles out of a tire.
I perform regular maintenance, and "try " not to break it, that said it otherwise has seen no mercy! Without over revving it , or beating on the transmission, its been used VERY well !
Bike runs real strong!

So Far I have 6000 miles. I'm guessing there is a little less than 1/2 life left (yeppers Pussboy is still on tire one).
What can I say Touring is what I do best and this tire does not wear too badly once up to speed ;^).
I have a 3-day trip planned for the end of July that should be about 2100 miles. Day to day riding I ride about 1500 miles a month. Rain this month has kept me from getting any smaller trips in.
I should have said 10,000 miles before Aug. 1st. It's cool because I do all my maintenance and there is a part of me that wants to try synthetic fork oil, I'll report back on the results, sometime in early August.
I don't ride my bike hard, (I suspect running 110 from time to time is not so hard for the 14) but Last months trip was 19 hours on 6 off, 20 hours on 7 hrs off, you get the picture. This included temps from low 50's to mid 90's with about 10 miles of heavy rain. In other words this puppy is going to see the elements and that may be hard on the bike over time.
Next months trip I suspect rain will be more of an issue. The plan is to go to the Honda Homecoming at Marysville, Ohio. It's a direct trip, different from Mays trip, which could have changed (no time limits). July's trip, well I'm planning on getting wet at least 20% of the trip.
I'll keep you updated, and thanks for putting my mind to rest.

LOL
it doesn't matter how you ride your bike.
As long as "you" enjoy it
That said ive ridden my bike right to the SPEED LIMITER many times over, and ran an entire tank of fuel through it at speeds over 100 mph.
5000-6500 rpm is nothing for these engines to run extended periods!
Just make sure your fluids are on the high side of the level indicators... even says so in the manual!
Let us know what you think of the fork oil, and updates with your touring luggage would be great!
I'll be in the market for some right away!

Hey D,
Were the guy warning us the fluids were not as full as the reserve suggest? I'll have to check that out thanks for the heads up.
When I'm ready to break down the forks, well I've been known to make an event out of uneventful ah event. My Point I'll be taking pictures of the forks, fork oil, brake pads and most parts in between.
I will also flush the front brake fluid and clutch fluid, My brake fluid has changed 5 different colors in the last month. It's breaking-in and normal but I like the fluids looking new...OK I'm a bit anal.
Further taking pics I'll bet I will encourage someone on the blog to do this chore themself. It's pretty easy and I should be able to talk most through the tougher areas and isn't this why we are all here?

When I was in the doctors office the day after picking up the bike, I brought the owners manual for something to read.... beats the hell out of ...."good housekeeping" rags they offer for your reading pleasure!
anyway it says for extended high rpm use, ensure the fluids are on the high side of the level marks , just topped up to the upper level mark.
Make sure to check the little crank case vent - oil resevoir down by the clutch slave , as it can fill with high rpm use.... although I have always found mine to be empty!
