Your dealer should locate a 14 and have it at the showroom for you!!!

If a dealer gets a bike from another dealer then they are at the mercy of the other dealer as to what the bike will cost, shipping charges etc. They are looking but I can't afford to just go out and pay any price.

FTS: Coleman Powersport in Falls Church Virginia (just south of Washington DC) has 3 on the showroom floor (one in each color), and a few more still sitting in packing crates. This is as of Saturday, 6/17.

Every year starting on July 1st, Japanese manufacturers begin assembling bikes for the next model year. So in two weeks time on July 1, the bikes rolling down Kawasaki's assembly line in Akashi Japan will be officially tagged as 2007 models.

Typically, Kawasaki starts each model year producing existing machines with little more then paint and graphic changes. The truly new models that will be introduced in the September dealer show won't roll down the assembly line until November at the earliest.

There is a method to this madness...Kawasaki has approximately 2500 employees working in the Consumer products Division in Japan that need to be gainfully employed throughout the year. With the long lead time in getting products to dealers, the ability to order 2006 models and have them be produced by June 30th has expired. Those 2500 folks will be producing 2007 model year Ninja 250s, Ninja 500s, etc starting on July 1st because they are some of Kawasaki's best sellers. If there are no updates to the ZX14 (remember the small but significant changes from the 04 ZX10 to the 05 ZX10?), then the 2007 model ZX14s will probably start production in September or October. The naked 14, tourer 14, new ZX6, and whatever else might be coming will be mixed in the production line from November to March.

Bottom Line: Find a dealer who can work with you in locating a 2006 ZX14 from another dealer. If you wait for the 2007 model 14, you probably won't be riding until the snow flies.

This is FTS' search request but it doesn't look like everyone is reading the whole thread. To prevent a ton of posts identifying bikes here and there that do not meet his needs, I will recap what he is looking to find...

1) Blue ZX-14 (not black, not red).
2) Relatively close proximity to Minneapolis. He said Chicago might be an acceptable distance (6 hours from Minneapolis). However, longer distances may not help.
3) Must be close to $11,500 OTD (with MN taxes and fees).

Thanks TJ.
I'm not trying to be difficult. This is just the reality of the situation.

Hard to believe that there are still bikes left on the dealer floor. Doesnt say much about the demand for this bike. I wonder what the production numbers will be next year ? maybe even less than 1500 ?

I am way concerned about whether I will get my bike at all this year. I put down cash back in May for first available 14 in red. Blacks and blues have come and gone, dealer offered me those but I held out for what I wanted which was red and only red. I'm starting to second guess my decision now, maybe I should have taken whatever I could get.. It's funny, color preference seems to be a regional thing, none of the dealers around here can keep red in stock while they almost have to give the blue ones away. Go figure.

All DFW dealers got red for their first shipment... I still would have liked to have blue, but the red sure is beautiful. Glad I didn't wait, as I already had 1,600 miles on my *red* bike before anybody nearby got any blue bikes in stock.

Good luck FTS... there's a blue beauty in Granbury, TX, but that's waaaaay to far away from MN.

If I understand this correctly , Kawasaki said that all the bikes that were ordered last year would be delivered by early june. If your bike wasnt ordered by the dealer last year ,it may not show up for a while.

Just got an E-mail from my dealer yesterday. He just got a blue one in and said not to worry, more bikes on the way so I will hang tough. So far only one third of his order of 14's are in. Next red one off the truck is mine.

Can anthing else go wrong? I went in to my dealer to pull the plate frame, heli risers, and spools off of my bike. I figured that I should get a new one ordered. The sales manager said uh... It will have to be an 2007. Kawi is not shipping or producing any more 2006. WTF? Who planned that production run? They are searching other dealers but they said that if they did find one, the other dealer would want top dollar plus freight. So basically unless something happens I'm S.O.L.
I called the Kawi rep to see if he could help.

if that is true, it make sense for my local dealer to ask 13500 d.o. for zx14, i guess they figure it out if someone wants it bad and there are none out there, they pay 13500 for it.
he has a black and red and they have been sitting for a month!!!

I think FTS is looking for ALL three of the following...

TJ: I called the regional Kawi rep with my tale of woe. He checked and helped my dealer locate an in the crate blue 14. The selling dealer rightfully wanted some $$ for the transaction so it will be $500 more than last time. At this point it seems fair. It might be here in a little over a week. I feel much better emotionally noww that I know that I'm getting my favorite bike of all time back.
It will be a while before I can ride it. I will still take delivery and put it in my studio. I will be able to do the undertail removal, etc. Before I ride it. If I have the $$ new front springs and shock spring would make things almost perfect.

That is great news! I'm glad you were able to get another blue one at a decent cost. By the time you are ready to ride, all the mods should be worked out

I just picked up my ZX-14 today - great ride home from Elizabeth City to Chesapeake!!!
AND******** They have another RED ZX-14 on the floor - AND, it is not spoken for yet.
The dealer is Askew Cycles in Elizabeth City, North Carolina - just below the Virginia/NC boarder (i.e. Norfolk/Virginia Beach).
The price is Sticker, and then you get 15% discount on accessories.

Spring of next year for a bike that will likely see no changes other than colors ? LOL

"Spring of next year" is for redesigned or new models like this years ZX14....The 07' unchanged models should be out before the new year..

Thats BS on the dealer wanting more money to do a dealer transfer on the bike. Aint they heard of what goes around comes around. The dealer with the blue 14 might need a bike from your dealer some day. That type of dealer transfer happens all the time. My dealer had to get my bike from about 60 miles away.

In fact the only new bike that I actually got off my dealers showroom was my 85 900 Ninja.

My 96 ZX11 and both of ZX12R's came from Kansas City Mo area..

No extra charges from either dealer. My dealer here in Topeka, Topeka Power Sports is supposed to be getting another blue 14 in sometime soon I believe.
