Is oil changing on this bike a challenge - or easy - my last Kawasaki was actually easy - but messy.

mugsymd - Oil changing on the '14 is hilariously easy and clean! The only trouble that you might run into is that the factory-installed oil filter is screwed on extremely tight, so be prepared for that. You'll either need a specific-fit wrench, or a small strap-style wrench to take it off. Once you get it turning, you're home free.
To change the oil without making a mess, and without jacking up the bike, get yourself a relatively low-profile oil drain pain that will slide under the faring. Break the filter and drain plug free first, slide the pan underneath and screw them off by hand. No mess, no problem.
WAY easier than my ZRX1200R or ZZR1200... by a longshot!!

And what the hell is up with *two* drain plugs on those 1200 motors? I did my first oil change and couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting much oil out... then my maintenance manual arrived and DUH! What a dumbass design. As much as I liked those bikes, I'm in love with the '14 and how simple an oil change has become.

Obviously. But when pretty much everyone else gets the job done with ONE drain plug, you'd think Kawi could have too. I'm sure that having two "oil loops" made that engine some sort of engineering marvel... it'll probably be on TV one day... ____________

The oil change was a complete 360* from the ZRX-1200's primative filter system (engine derived from ZX-11). Like others said the filter was damn tight but my strap-on owned it ____________

Super Tech7317. Pick up a gallon or two of the Shell Rotella full synthetic (blue jug) while you are at Walley World getting the filter. both great products, Ive been using them for years...TB
