The Blue Beast Is Dead. R.I.P

The insurance adjuster called today. Got the news that my 14 is totaled. Basically they will pay off the loan and give me what's left. They will have the details tomorrow.I hope 14's are easier to get now as I don't want to be without a bike all summer. I have to get a loan again etc... It will be a few weeks until I can ride again anyways. I'm going to go look at a replacement helmet now. Not a fun way to start the summer. I have plenty of practice waiting for a ZX-14 though.

+1. You are better off as mentioned above. Depending on how much you put down on it, you're coming out ahead. That's all that matters at this point.

Regarding your previous post about them not paying retail value etc...you are entitled to dispute the amount if it is not fair market value (enough to replace it). They are in the business to make money. You do actually have a say in it though. Just depends on how far you want to take it.

Glad things are moving along in the right direction.

I don't know if 14s are hard to come by in your area, but Chicago has tons of them. Any color you want, I've seen it sitting in a shop here within the past few days. I still haven't seen a single one on the road.

It was too far gone. Any bike will be totalled if it cracks most of the plastic. When plastic is cracked, they never repair it or paint over it. You get a brand new piece at msrp from the dealer, + whatever that dealer tacks on to it...like most of them do. Same thing with the tank. It looked like it was just scraped and dented, but he would have gotten a brand new one.

FTS, I'm surprised they totaled it, unless the frame was bent I would have thought they could have fixed it. Just for the record my VFR was rebuilt at 41,000 miles and I plan on running her to 100,000 miles....The ZX may make it there first.

It all adds up real fast. A mirror is over $100, windscreen $200, ram air tube $100, every single bolt on the bike is at least $2, you get the idea.

I'm just quoting internet prices for a 12r from ronayers, a local dealer could be twice as expensive.

I hope you're all right, and your insurance co. pays in full. Your rates are likely going to skyrocket on the next one, you might want to consider getting an unsecured loan, or borrowing against your 401K or other collateral, and paying cash so you don't have a lien on the bike, which affects insurance rates. I did that, saved a bundle, however I have USAA / Progressive so I'm already getting *decent* rates to begin with.

A part of me wants to ridicule you without mercy for wrecking the bike , however I can't relate since in my 20 years of riding on the street I've never been down. Sorry it happened, and better luck the next go around.

The frame and motor are fine. Everything else is toast. Instrements ,bars etc. They factor in labor as well. I'll know more tomorrow on the specifics. The insurace companies totals cars at 75% but bikes at 65% I don't know why. Used NADA value is $11,499. List price.
Bikes are selling at list or slightly above which is good for me. The only real worry is what will happen to my insurance rates. If they skyrocket I will not be able to get a new one. I have a clean record so possibly they will cut me some slack.

Hate to say it, but best thing is that it's written off.
When mine was knocked over a week ago my dealership told me (as they looked at damage) that any dent, mark on the frame would "total" bike as no way to know frame not violated. Adjuster agreed... Last thing you want man is a beautiful bike, that shakes like an H1 / H2 at 80 +

Soon you will have a brand new ride..... just in time for when them bones heal, good luck

Have you been riding long? How long have you had your M class, and how long have you been insured with them? Those are the main things they look at. If you just signed up with them, bought your first bike, and just got an M class...your rates will be nuts. On the other hand if you're a long time rider and customer, you could be fine.

I went down low side about two years ago. Totaled the bike on a slide and it was a pain. I had paid for the extra coverage for accessories. But only for 3K. I had more on the bike and gear than that. So I wrote it up to experience.

One tip for you, take the risers off you had on there. No reason to leave them once totaled.

You are going to get better and you will ride another day! Heal well.

Yea and I have to get my fancy carbon license plate frame as well.

I have friends that work at a local bike dealer who said that they will get me a new Arai at dealer cost if they can display the crashed one. The insurance will pay up to $400 for a new lid so I'll be good to go in that department.
