D&D Just picked up the '14 from D&D. Wow, do these cans sound incredible!! Talk about deep and throaty... now it sounds like the baddest-ass streetbike around too!
The exhaust tone is very deep with no hint of raspyness like D&D's old systems. They've switched to totally different materials and packing for their cans last year - they got tire of being known as the loudest system on the market, so they changed things up. The result is perfect for a big-bore streetbike like the '14... it's exactly what I was looking for.
They did a great job on the pipes & materials too. I got their Faux-Ti finish on the mid-pipe, and their ceramic-black powdercoated can bodies. I think the combination looks great on the '14, and it gets rid of that shiny polished stuff that Kawi put on.
Sorry for the picture quality, I only had my old camera with me when I picked it up. I'll get better pictures this weekend. I also snapped a few shots of their dyno, hopefully I'll have charts in a few days. They said that it averaged 4-5hp gain across the range, but I haven't seen the chart to verify that yet.

Looks great! So, are those pipes just slightly more loud than the stockers, or quite a bit louder? Where did you get that tank pad? I need one. Thanks

i had d&d on my previous busas. they sound good, the more you accelerate the louder they get opposite of muzzy. let us know how it runs with pipe.

So your saying the more you accelerate, the quieter the Muzzy's get?? I have mine here in the box, just haven't installed them yet.

D&D is trying to get away from that reputation. Their main R&D guy spent a lot of time explaining how they have gone to great lengths to reduce the "scream" factor of their old pipes. These new cans sound VERY respectable, no scream at all - just full, rich sound.
They have that full sound at low rpm's accelerating through the gears, then the sound fades away as you get up to highway speeds. It's a very pleasant sound at 60+... you know you have cans, but it's nowhere near obtrusive.

I would say slightly louder - a very comfortable tone and volume. I don't want to wake up the neighbors when I leave for my early Sunday morning rides, and I don't think these will. Having the full dual cans intact probably makes these a bit quieter than the full system with single can setups, but the sound is still very deep and rich. The idle is particularly sweet...
My tank protector is a genaric Pro Grip carbon-fiber looking stick-on thing. Most accessory shops carry them.

Thanks for the follow-up...this is good news...I've been waiting for Yoshimura to bring some 14 pipes to the table, but I may go your route...

How much do they cost? Looks sweet.

I can't remember, and I don't have the package, but it's probably the large. It measures about 8" high by 5" wide at the widest part (top).

TJ - It would be interesting to see how different our two systems sound. Yours appear to be their old style cans, or at least they are smaller diameter. They have since added larger diameter pipes for these big-bore bikes that they never offered in the past. I think they said mine were 4.5" diameter, but I haven't measured them yet.
We should try to compare sound bytes somehow ____________

Hey guys - I took some measurements to compare my D&D setup to the stock cans:
- The D&D can bodies are over 6" shorter than the stock cans
- Those 6" are lost by reducing 3" at the front, and 3" at the rear, meaning that they are 3" shorter at the end of the bike by the license plate
- The cans sit 3" NARROWER than the stock cans, giving the bike a slimmer profile. The pipes are still parallel to each other, but the hangar bracket is closer to the center of the can than the stock pipe where the bracket is at the edge of the can.
Also, because these are aluminum and have NO cat, they really run cool. I was able to put my hand on them 10 minutes after a ride without burning. It was still quite warm, but not burning hot like the stock pipes would have been. After an hour, the cans were room temp. The stock cans would have still been fairly hot/warm after an hour.
