i wonder if the projectors make for a better transition to HID? i know reflectors cause a problem in that the light source does not match correctly. also, how much weight does this mod add?

Dunno if they're better - main thing is that the element be the same distance to/from the reflector for accurate beam which would mean that the reflector set-up could actually be worse as it is a more defined beam.
Yer prolly lookin bout 2-5 pounds per light .

...and I can tell you a few things, since I have them on now...
1) They are brighter and offer greater visibillity to the rider.
2) Coverage is more defined -- could be good or bad depending on the rider's preferences
3) Each ballast and harness weighs about a pound...so add 4 pounds
4) Requires about 35% less power from the alternator - so you gain about 1/10 of a horsepower (expensive mod for power gain only)
5) Bike will be more visible in a rearview mirror and in oncoming traffic
6) It will blind oncoming traffic if you're not careful -- keep high beams off in dark
7) Big "cool" factor (not the reason I did it but...)
8) Uses virtually all available space in beside air ducts...not much left for anything else
9) Beams don't hit full intensity right away...takes a good 10 seconds -- flash to pass is fine though.
10) Bulbs are mucho $$$$ to replace
11) You stand out in a crowd of bikes, most don't have them
Overall, much better than stock.

So exactly what kits are you guys usin and where are ya gettin them from?
What light range are ya using?
I see 2 bulb kits goin from $190-500 per kit.

Thanks for the pics - I was referring to true HID though, not replacement halogen bulbs.

The Xenon bulbs (non HID) don't last and have a tendency to melt things...like wires, and discoloration of projectors occur as well over time...I saw that on my 10R. Real HID's won't do that.
