California CHP do have to follow the laws, I didn't despute that fuck-heads. I said the law was not designed for them. I'm not your son, and you obviously can't read. Your hung up on the CHP, are you a cop? obviously not or you would know the truth. Your probably a secutirty guard that couldn't pass the testing.

lookin at the gauge
there is NO WAY of knowing what your actual temp is.......

witth one of those handy pistol grip infra red sensors
task made EZ

ride your bike during normal temp days & nites
note the temp.....mine regularly temps out at the thermostat
normal riding .... moderate temps
rarely gets over 220

the fan is designed to come on at a higher temp
& reduce that temp by approx 20degrees
no doubt 2 fans are better
or having a switch so that the engine NEVER gets that HI is Better !!!!!

letting the engine get stinking HOT for any reason is abusive
no less Idling is Very Inefficient........inducing heat

when an nengine is idling....LOAD is reduced
but i wonder how many times the occasional wheelie
or Hi Speed .... lets get the Hell out o here
& the engine has Not had the opportunity to recover to a more acceptable heat range
happens possibly bringin on unwanted wear

worse case scenario......oil is compromised
& heat soak also marginalizes the engine
possible valve & head gasket problems

temp your engine
also lets you know where your gauge is reading
180-220 acceptable on dino oils

maybe a little bit more with a "ester" sythetic
anything more that 225 degrees
may in the long run cause problems

blvd cruzin for tail is not what 185mph bikes were designed for
free country tho
cruzin for tail & pimpn yo ride are national pastimes

good luck

You need to stick to GA. It is not the same here and I called the CHP dispatcher in my building to verify my answer. My downstairs neighbor rides a Kawasaki ZR1200 and is a CHP dispatcher. His answer confirmed mine. The hours of traffic it takes to get 20 miles on L.A. freeways causes all bikes to overheat. Also, the law was designed to allow riders to avoid other cars who don't see them (this I didn't know). The law states that a motorcycle may share a lane with a car, or pass between cars at up to 15 MPH faster than the speed of traffic, without exceeding the speed limit.

He's got a ZR1200? Must be a spacial addition...

Texas is only considering "lane splitting" to encourage motorcycle riders to commute to work on their bikes, which is the same reason that California passed it's law years back. By allowing lane splitting, they reduced the tendancy for the rider AND motorcycle to get hot while sitting in traffic, therefore promoting the act of commuting to work via motorcycle.

That's the REAL reason. No government gives a shit about motorcycles overheating. What they DO care about is reducing vehicle emissions by reducing traffic on busy highways.

Mr. htosado (And, believe me, I use the term loosely),

In the interest of brevity (and because you are obviously not much good at this), I'll keep it general: 1) I stated very clearly I did not know CA law, and that I had no idea if any of this had anything to do w/the lane-splitting law there. 2) My initial response, ref. CHP, was after mention by someone else. 3) My first response to you was after you made direct ref. to me. The idea being: "Don't start nothin', and there won't be nothin'." In this, you failed. 4) I don't have any particular feeling for the CHP, other than a general respect for LE. 5) You're right. You're not my son. It was a cheap, inexcuseable cheapshot. I apologize. Besides, I'm sure your father is very proud... 6) My representation was aptly put. I gladly let it stand. 7) A dispatcher is not LE personnell, as a matter of interest. 8) The remainder of your drivel is more of what I already stated I didn't know, so I'll just let it go.

In general, try to respond w/logic, not emotion. You may find yourself on the winning side, on occasion. Or not...

Wow, that took alot. I'll just say F-off. You're right, I'm not much good at this, but you stated that you assumed it was the same and it isn't. I got a ticket in Florida for splitting lanes, before I knew they didn't like it. I spent almost an hour arguing with the cop for him saying I was not telling the truth and it wasn't legal in any state including California. I learned then what the truth was when he researched it on his radio through his dispatch. About my friend the dispatcher, he is a Kawasaki club rider, and takes interest in motorcycle rights. I'd say he knows more than the both of us. As far as logic vs. emotion, I don't really care. I miss-spell frequently, type too fast, and generally just don't worry much of what people think of me on this site. Everybody is on the winning side when you get the answer your looking for. You're insults though need some work, fastestbusa has you by a landslide. Last, I don't have parents anymore.
