RPM at top speed?
I thought I recall people stating 8500 or 9000 rpm at 186 / 298 KM?
Well did a couple runs today and:
Shift light is set at 10,500 rpm so ...
3rd= 220km/h / 137 mph
4th= 240km/h / 150 mph
5th= 280km/h / 174 mph
6th= 298 km/h / 186 mph @ 10, 000 rpm for sure I looked this time (2x's actually / 2 runs)
What rpm are you turning, and what speed indicated when pegged in 6th?
Pulls like a bear right up to 298- then holds steady 298-300 km/h
My figures work out to 10,600 rpm with 16 tooth will still give 300km, hope the speedo healer will compensate for gearing change and allow it to rev out to pull 300 still !

I have, was running just around 10.1K at WOT in 6th...and that was when I pinned and held her there for a few seconds to make sure she was really at 298-300...because the GPS indicates speedo error of almost 10%. I could have been off a few rpm's just because I didn't look for long...not at those speeds...road was too narrow
BTW, don't expect too many answers on this thread...if I had a 1/2 a brain, I wouldn't be hitting those speeds on public roads either...but then -- I have more balls than brains...(bad thing).
Also, I hear there are Internet police checking these threads waiting to hand out dangerous driving tickets...that's why you should always photochop out yer plate number in the posts...

i talked about this on may 30. Bob C said on paper the bike would do the 186 at 10100 rpm. He also said on paper it would do 203 at 11k. I ran mine out . I know for show it wasnt close to 11k. I thought it was around 8-9k. But at that speed I could be wrong. I didnt have alot of time to stare at it.

Hmmm, I definately was wound out, 298-300, and 10,000 matbe 10,100 RPM.
Good to know want ot make sure all is good.
Another 600 rpm with 16 tooth will give same speed, if the ecu is corrected with speedo healer!

Don't know about 6th gear but with a 18 tooth on the front, 187mph is at 11,500rpms in 5th.

11,000 in 6th is 202 stock gearing, best memory 17/41, right?
then 18 tooth @11,000 in 6th is 213 +5.9%
I have not confirmed this, no tests available????????????
My 18 tooth is ready to install
My Speedo Healer will be here Monday

With standard 17/41 gearing and a standard Bridgestone the ZX-14 is doing 9832rpm at 185.998mph. Hope this helps.
Remember speedo's and tacho's are not always accurate.
My spreadsheet with the correct ratios and tire circumferences etc. is spot on.

That's a very tall 6th gear:
11,000rpm = 208mph
All other posts [bikeland, magazines] I have seen, show 11,000rpm = 202mph
Thanks for doing the math.
I have not calculated tach error for all my Kawi [ZX10, 11, 12, 10r were 2-300rpm optomistic]
Speedo is 9% optomistic, non linear [my calc, bikeland posts].

Why do I always feel that gears are too close to each other
The restricted top speed should be available at 5th gear at top power
then 6th is for top speed at top torque
I would like to have a seventh gear at the bottom
½ gear for slow traffic with a separate ½ throttle change (or rather 1/4 ratio)
eg. it works like the 1st gear half open if one stupidly pulls it full open
that way one has more presize control and no fear for sudden flip-over wheelie

Not wrong there.
11000 in 5th = 186mph
11000 in 6th = 208mph
If you went down to a 16 tooth gearbox sprocket you would have:
11000 in 5th = 176mph
11000 in 6th = 195mph
Assuming the bike is de-restricted.
