There's a moral to that story zeexman....no doubt about it....the human factor can elevate a situation right over the top....The positive side to the situation is "if" there's a noise problem and the dealers get notified and "if" Kawasaki monitors the boards [so it's been claimed], then they're more likely to get on the ball with a fix. It's beneficial for everyone to be vocal about problems...even minor ones...."squeaky wheel get's the oil"....Knocking noises in the starship powerplant should be high priority for the company to resolve. Image is everything in this modern internet connected, digitally enhanced world...

Had the same problem with my VTX 1300, this is one noisy engine and everybody that owned one was complaining they thought the thing was going to blowup at any time. Turned out to be nothing. If you obsess over it though you'll never ride and it will steal your joy. Anyway after 14,000 miles in the last 12 months on this bike I quit worrying about it and enjoy the ride funny noises and all. I would find somebody in your area that has a 14 and compare the noise your bike is making to theirs or a couple others. May be normal. Just my .02

I noticed last night a brief sharp rattle at startup, and a bit of a rattle cruising around 4 - 4.5K on mine, and I have 1,026 miles already. It sounds just like my Blackbird and the infamous "CCT" issue. Go to cbr1100xx.org and look it up; Honda redesigned the tensioner about 4 times over the years, the most recent design appears to have cured it. My 14's symptoms are freakishly similar to the CCT issue on the 'Bird.  I changed oil @ 600mi, used Kawasaki Premium 10-40 oil (non-synth) to extend the engine wear-in period. I know this CCT is hydraulically aactuated, so I wonder what the effects of going full synthetic, like with Amsoil or Mobil 1 will be.
I concur with the earlier post, I think the source of the rattle the valve chain and the tensioner mechanism. I speculate the brief loud rattle on startup is from the chain being really loose from CCT lack of oil pressure, and the lighter rattle at operating temps around 4K is lack of proper tension.

Mine Only makes that Rattle If i dont let it warm up for 30 sec to a min before i ride if i just jump on it and ride from cold it rattles but no all the time.

rattle is normal at start up. It's a real quick rattle then ceases............!

You think the cold start rattle is normal ??? what do you base that info on ? I feel it's not right to do that , not all the zx14 are doing that start up rattle ....Mine just started doing that and it's loud and scrary at best ...
I put 200 miles on mine last night and ran like a dream but i still have that knocking sound from 2000 to 2500 on lite acell and slow decell ... I hear it best while pulling up to a slow stop in first gear with the clutch out ... I can hear it in 2 and 3 while slowing down if there is not much traffic or sounds around me ....It doesn't seem to have hurt anything (so far) But the sounds bugs me ... I wish we knew what it is for sure and not all this guessing ...

Brocks does, Mine does and others do..............busa did too...................these oil dampened tensioners are just noisy...........

I wish mine only knocked for 30 seconds on startup. Mine sounds like a rod about to go bad. If I tried to sell mine tomorrow, nobody would buy it with this sound....I know I wouldn't.
Unfortunately for me, I'm not mechanically inclined so I will have to rely on the dealer for diagnostic and hope it can be taken care of because it sounds like a lemon right now.
