Kawi Canada recall
Well, I got my recall notice today, says I shouldn't ride the bike till the dealer repairs it...dealer can't do it for 3 weeks, I'm selling the bike now while I can still get money...NOT...this is still the greatest motorcycle I have ever owned and no doubt, largest grin factor. I heard they are going to recall the bike shortly for the low end power problem, they want to reduce it more to make it softer now....:P
BMW K1200S has the opposite problem now, poor shifts due to bad design, and the fix is a software update, which from what I have heard on the boards and people that own them, limits the amount of low end power...and have also heard that the update is done from a PC and in many cases is causing the PC and the bikes ECU to crash, nice huh? Also can't revert back to the old firmware once the ECU is reflashed..many guys are complaining about engine stall...and low end power loss and the dealers don't have a handle on the right fix yet...lot's of pissed off BMW owners out there...

er, hmm. I own a k12S and did the software update. It does nothing for the shifting and it does not lose low end power. What it did, at least to mine cause I have an 06 was to fix the valve adjustment interval glitch that is read by the diagnostic computer, that tells the service department when to adjust the valves. My update went smooth. It is true that it fried some computers on some bikes. This was becaue the service person did not follow the new instructions given by BMW North america. In fact I had to tell my dealer about it myself. Mine shifts fine and is real smooth, almost as smooth as the 14 and smoother than the busa. Don't believe everything you read on the internet.

My brother has on 05, (04 build -- first run) he was under the impression from research that he did, that the software updates for that bike was for the tranny issue, which he says is now basically gone in any case...is there more than 1 type of update by chance?

There was a 5.1 and a 6.0, but 5.1 was for a fueling issue..........not tranny issue.

I'm a K12S owner as well, and this is correct. It's also why I'm not bothering with the software update.

I can't imagine how a software update will affect the tranny, which is prely mechanical.
