interesting experiment
I too have experienced the weird noise on start-up that was mentioned in a previous thread. I did a little experiment to see if it had anything to do with possible bleed-down decresing pressure on the cam chain tensioner. It seemed most probbale to me, given that it only does it when the engine is cold and goes away as soon as pressure builds up. I don't yet have my centerstand which is on order (thought $180 cdn was pretty good) so I carefully propped up the bike to a near vertical position overnight and fired her up this morning. Guess what.....way less noise only heard a little portion of what I was hearing. Could be a fluke but I wonder if it bleeds down differently when it's vertical? Anyway, thought it was worth mentioning...cheers

The early GPz's had a similar problem (although mechanical cam chain tensioner) they used to have rapid cam lobe wear on the opposite side to the sidestand, through oil drain down. However now in the modern age most oils tend to leave a film in place.
What viscosity oil are you using!!

Would be interesting to see if peeps having the prob are still on the factory oil, or it's after the first change.

There is NO prob.....The cam chain tensioner is hydraulically stabilized....the noise you hear on start up is NORMAL.....unless it does not go away.
No harm no foul. enjoy
