From my past experiences, tire size will vary greatly from one manufacturer to another. A 180 Bridgestone will be as wide or wider than a 200 Metz...I saw this on my FJR...so really, it makes a big difference between one manufacturer and another. I personally wouldn't change the rear to a wider tire; it will be harder to put into corners and also, bear in mind that the bike was designed for a specific width of tire. Some people even go with a narrower tires in the rear for easier cornering. A lot of testing and engineering goes into these machines before they are built and tires can make or break the bike. My .02 cents.

i did change from 190 to 200 in my 02 and 05 busa, you really can not see much differrence on width or height, it did not do anything better or worse on my busa except it cost you more. i would say based on past experience, there is no advantage.

Shall we both gain our weight back so we can look cooler?
Sorry, FBA I couldn't resist. Actually I like the bigger is better tires on everything EXCEPT sport-bikes. I agree with you that the manufacturers spent a lot of time/money maximizing the bikes potential and greatly altering that might have VERY negative consequences. Frankly, I'm amazed how small the front tire is on the 14, it just looks puny to me.
Case in point, some of the Boss Hoss riders go to very wide car tires or 330 bike tires and make a bike that won't lean very far even worse. Looks good standing still but I wanna ride . . . and even the interstates aren't straight here.

No man..no way, I'll stay where I'm at now and go with slimmer rubber thank you...
Far as the front tire on the 14, I can tell you that less is more...standard tire for all sport bikes in fact...yesterday, I scraped the pegs a few times in corners and the tires held true to the ground...I had no slip at all...skinnier is better for me, more weight /sq inch...more load, less slip! Personally, the big fat bikes need that look cuz they can't do anything anyway (except move quick)...handling isn't an issue (cuz they don't) and they can loose some weight by removing the center stand (they don't need one with that 330 rear) :P

Yeah, the bigger tire does look better...But the ZX12s used to come with 200 rear tires, as we found out that the smaller tire handles better...Most of us on here were using a 190 or 180 rear...I use a 180 rear for DragRacing, and alot of guys that played in the twisties use 180s...

If only concerned with looks, go for the 200. In most street situations, the 200 will even handle fine (albeit not ideal). I understand the trackday consensus for liter bikes has been favoring the new(ish) 190/60s.

The 200 section will slow the steering and make the handling worse. If you want it to look cool then fine, I will be staying on a 190.

I thought that the latest was 190/55 (taller than standard 190/50). Is there also 190/60 now?

The latest is a 190/60. Dunlop makes them in the Sportmax GP and D208 lines...

BTW....you can also get a 195/70 if you want a slick (obviously not for street use)
