What happens to the Press Intro bikes?

Do they refurbish, crate them up and sell them to people?

Most will continue use as test vehicles for magazines, dealer promos, etc... and then sold as used bikes.

Other, more knowledgeable individuals can confirm or deny this.... but...

IF the ZX-14 that fish and Mike was a PRE-PRODUCTION model, the bikes would be used for press rides and promotional/show displays. Once these obligations are fulfilled, parts such as bodywork, wheels, etc. are removed. The frame, with it's VIN is cut up and destroyed. The motor case, with it's serial number is also destroyed.

The logic behind this is really kinda simple. Some would covet a true preproduction bike, under the false belief that it is in some way "superior" to one that came down the same assembly line as a regular "production" bike. This belief is likely compounded by the aspect of the manufacturing and break in process might have been under the closer supervision of KHI and KMC.

Thus, there is the rub. If such a bike was sold to the public and a member of this said public chose to do stand ups down the interstate and crashes this bike, resulting in personal injury to himself and/or others... guess who gets sued? Because of the "perceived" uniqueness of this bike, a non-motorcycle riding jury could easily find that this "uniqueness" is what played a part in the reckless operation and resulting injury.

Sound crazy? So does "community service" for driver that hit a motorcyclist and killed the rider.

You won't see these bikes on E-Bay.

Redelk,
I've heard Honda does the same thing, seems like a waste but it's the way it is.
