Long ride review

ok, I took the mighty 14 for a 300 mile run today. This bike has got to be the best kept secret out there. There is so much confidence and stability with this bike. Some of the turns I was a little nervous on were like nothing to worry about today. I was so excited I rerun the curves 3 tiime to make sure. I'm spitting on them now. I got 34.5 mpg and I'm real happy about that. The ZX12 could never get that kind of gas mileage. I don't know if this will change once I put a pipe on. I am so glad I purchased this bike that I really don't have the words to describe it. The seat is great and the ergos are good as well. Anyone who is sitting on the fence or hasn't received theirs yet are in for a treat. Can't wait till this baby is broken in. This bike is so far ahead of my old ZX11D that it's not funny..........................the engine is smooth and so is the gear box. A total complete package!

I just got back from a 260 mile ride myself, got about 1,600 miles on it now. Damn this bike is fun! I'm getting used to the power delivery and using more revs to stay out of the "lugging" below 5k rpm... this bike is soooo smooth and sweet sounding when it's pushed hard. It's still too quiet, but the sound is nice anyway.

Our "ride leader" was sick today, so I had to lead our group. I don't lead much, but I had a blast anyway. I prefer to follow through most corners, and our leader usually has a really clean line and good corner speed, so he always gives me a nice target shoot for. As usual with this bike, it was a blast. The bike handles corners so much better than my ZZR... Thanks Kawasaki!!!

I just got back from 450 mi overnight Bed & Breakfast "run". I know you can stop laughing now. It was the wife's and mine 1st anniversary and it was great. She took her SV650 and I took the best bike I have ever owned. The Kawasaki ZX14. I can not say how much I like this bike. Power = Nuff said. Brakes = Even Better. I have never had better. Even six pot Performance Machine calipers and rotors, which up to now were the mark to beat, are not as good. Handling = Sure there are plenty of bikes that will turn underneath a 14, for its size it is really, really good. Tires = I have done an about-face on the BT14s. They are better than I thought they would be when pushed hard. I manage to blue streak them right to the edge and they never caused me to once go Oh No!! They stuck and balled up nice. They do wear quick 2100mi and they are pretty well shot but they surprised me somewhat. I just ordered a set of Pilot Powers so we will see the differences. Looks = I like and don't care what anyone else thinks. But others seem to like and if they know what they are looking at they just ask " is it as fast as they say"? I reply "no it's too slow" and then I laugh!!

Congrats TM!! Hopefully many more to go.

I agree with everything you said regarding the 14...I have about 2000 miles as of today...also dead tires, scrubbed down to the bead now. I took mine out this weekend and we did about 750 miles. I hit some of the best roads I've ever been on and had the opportunity to do some serious knee draggin' (thighs are killin' me now). It took till now to really get comfortable with the beast to the point where I'm now very comfortable laying her down hard in the turns...but I've got to say that she handles better than anything in it's class. I got the pegs scraped today, which was tough to do, but through all that, I found that the bike is extrodinarily nimble and can corner with the best litre bikes, though it takes a lot more sweat & muscle to do it. Spanked 3 wheelie-happy gixxers today in the corners...passed 'em all on a few wide sweepers like they were standing still...they tried to catch me on the exit down the straights....but once again, the mighty 14 pissed all over the 750's. Then I did it again on the next corner. Amazingly enough, these guys could do 1/2 hour standups, but couldn't corner fer shit. This 48 yr old fucker taught those 20 year old punks a good lesson,,,one they won't forget easily...this easily the finest machine I have ever owned...and a bargain at 10K less than a K1200S. Locked up the "wooden" rear brake today and did a slide, pushed like a bastard to stop with rear brakes only, but all I got was a wheel lock...LOL I really believe that the weak rear brake is by intent; designed only for trailbraking and nothing more, not that we need it anyway. Bottom line: the 14 rocks! Matt, like yer new avatar...LOL

Vegas dude, I thought I was the only one with such shitty mileage. Yestarday I had my wife on the 10R and my buddy on his Busa...I used 40% more fuel than the Busa and the 10R...not that I really care, but was wondering if something else might be wrong with this motor...seems to have plenty of power, not burning oil, just lousy fuel consumption.

Not if the ECU believes I was actually going 185... which it might, right?

Hey - guys that have bounced this bike off the speed limiter: Did the Speedo read 186, or was it burried up around 195-200?

It could very well be. I was watching "America's Funniest Home Videos" tonight and they ran a clip of this monkey smoking a cigarette then crossing his leg... it was quite funny, so I grabbed a screen capture of it. There are several monkeys in this forum, I figgured I'd join the crowd

When it hits the end its a soft tip in , no bounce matt.
Basically just tapers off.
MPH ? 300 KM/h mine went , but did not push much more.
Seemed I could feel it taper off around 280 kmh

So if the speedo is 6% off, and your speedo reads 300kph when you hit the speed limiter, you were really only going 282? That kinda sucks...

I'll try to take a GPS with me next time too, but it'll be a couple of weeks before I'm on my "top speed" roads again.

Speedo reads 300 when you are at 274 (GPS) or so, but when you hit 300 and pin it, it will stay there till the limiter kicks in...(CDN speedo KM's) Dubious, I hit 300 a few times and bounced the limiter, pulled hard from 280 up....I'm surprised to hear you say that, I wonder why that was, mine just pulls like fuck till the limiter...I hit 275 today in 5th and shifted to 6th to pull hard to 300...more than once today.
