Ive bounced my stock zx14 off 300 km on the speedo several times now.
Pegging it on the limiter I imagine.
Slight movement when running into crosswinds, but freight train stable with no wind or wind from the rear.

Very impressive machine !

Good job Dan.
Just wait till you see what it'll pull with a pipe.
Another 20 rwhp to be had right into the rev limiter!

Oh yeah after some constant pulls in top gear from 50 -90 mph, approximatley 150 miles worth..... the motor loosened right up. BIG power difference after 150 miles break in!

trust me if it were going to "loosen up" it would have done so on the dyno and at maxton...

Thats some low mileage, do you think the ringsa are fully seated with such little run time?
I'm not being smart.... really i am curious!
thanks!

While your here, when would be a good time for full synthetic oil?
Some say 100 miles, some say 2000 miles.
What you think, have you taken motors apart with such low mileage to confirm any theories?
Thanx

The bike had several heat cycles and spent the few miles that it had on the dyno for a quick break-in. I still doubt the rings are fully seated though. We did allow for good cool downs between runs.
My sons ZX6RR was broken in with the same procedure, heat cycles and dyno time and spent the first 250 miles of its life on the dragstrip, it was a racebike only. After the season he reinstalled the street equipment and sold the bike. The guy now has 3,000 miles on it and it runs fine. Me personally, I follow closer to the factory recommended procedure.

Everything I own has synthetic oil in it and I usually put a couple thousand miles on them before switching. The only exceptions are the past two BMW cars and Corvette I've bought new, they come filled with synthetic from the factory.

Vetts and Vipers come with Mobil one from the factory....I build a lot of race motors (cars) we run them full out at the track for a few passes and then dump the break in oil and add mobil one .... around 500 runs will we will pull them down and take a look see ...Other than Valve springs we change nothing. Bearing, cams and lifters look new...Pistons have no marks or tracking on the skirts ....I think it's safe to say > break it in how you like, Hard or soft and it will make little or no difference...Just keep the oil clean and fresh and don't over heat the engine and you will be ok ...Everybody does it a little different and it allways seem to work out just fine ..

hmm, I heat cycled, and ran the motor under full load... below 6000 rpm roll ons, for 1st 130 miles or so, and it seemed to loosen up nicely.
Then i gave it the first run up to 280 km/h, bike still felt unfamiliar, so I backed out- 80kph gusting crosswinds did not help my confidence!

Had her wound right out 7 or 8 times now.
The amazing thing is how quick it gets there... IMO

Felt tight, and reluctant to rev before all the roll ons.
Put synthetic oil in her at 2nd oil and filter change - 400 miles.

Good show though Dan.
I wonder what the ACTUAL stock geared bike is turning for mph?

Did i mention how much i love this bike?
