Is the countershaft sprocket welded on?

Is it left handed threads? If any one has had it off yet was it difficult to do. I have used two different types of impact wrenches and can't get it off! Please help!

No no, relax dood!! LOL Don't torch on your 14..
Does it have the lock washer, as the 12 does?? Don't know your mechanical level, please don't be offended.
Get a piece of 2x4 or sumthin' through the rear wheel, on top of the swingarm, and find the longest piece of pipe you can on the end of your ratchet/ breaker/ whatever. Trans in neutral, pull on that sumbitch, it'll go.. Make sure you pad the top of the swingarm(where your block will hit), so you don't mar the arm.
I've done it this way on my 12 many times.

Hey, dont use impact guns on the sprocket nut guys.
You can damage the gears and dogs.
Besides its much easier to put a 2x4 or somthing wood like a shovel handle thru the rear wheel agenst the swingarm on both sides and use a breaker bar. Its VERY easy this way.

Why would a few taps of an impact wrench to a bunch of damage to your gears if you're in neutral? Sure, if you sit on the impact button for a couple of minutes, it might start to do things that you don't want, but hitting it a few times isn't going to cause major problems on hardened parts inside the tranny.

On the other hand, if it doesn't break free right away with a few taps from a good, strong impact wrench, it's time to break out something with a lot more mechanical advantage... but even then you're putting a lot of stress on the aluminum casing... which is worse? Impact hits that are really only putting stress on the sprockets and chain, or applying 500+ ft lbs via a long breaker bar extension, potentially causing the case to crack or oval the output hole?

Outsider's sprocket overwhelmed my old impact wrench and bent my breaker-bar. That fucker was ON there.

I have since upgraded to a high-dollar Snap-On impact wrench that would twist Osama Bin-Ladens location out of the most loyal Jihadist.

Put the bike in neutral (important unless you want to learn how to split engine cases), wrap the spokes with towels, put a 2x4 through the wheel just above the swingarm and hit it with the big gun.

I had a breaker bar with a 6 foot pipe on the end when I took off the factory sprocket. Myself and another friend were pushing on that bar while another friend was on the bike, the bar started to bend and then the bike was getting lifted off the ground...so we got another friend to sit bitch on the back...it still lifted up and wouldn't break loose. There was no way it was coming off without an impact.

My experience exactly Jim.

Three 200 lbs + guys and it wouldn't budge.

I was afraid we were going to break something inside. We gave up and Outsider had his Dad hit with the impact at his shop.

I bought one of those "Earthquake" impact wrenches at Harbor Freight not too long ago and have been pleased as hell with it. I think it's torque rating is somewhere in the 550-650 range. Not a bad deal at all for the $69 I paid. I'm all for Snap-On stuff, but I just couldn't justify their prices for an impact wrench that I, personally, will never use enough to wear out. I'd put money on it right now that this wrench will spin that little nut off in no time!

Well... I'd be pushing it with about 150lbs of air if necessary too...

I know that's much simpler, but don't you have to increase by 2-3 teeth to get similar results as going down 1 in the front? And wouldn't that increase the possibility of needing to lengthen the chain?

I haven't decided if I want to modify anything just yet, but I might be interested in increasing the rear by 1 or 2 if that didn't make the chain too short.

2' breaker bar while sitting on the bike with my foot on the rear break (lock washer undone) and it came off with just a little muscle, 16t installed, speed corrector installed, bike runs even better and the fuel milage increased about 3 mile to the gal.

while a hammer gun will get the nut loose
or remove it

the threads will be knackered
will give you a false torque reading when replaced
which will cause inadequate...... stretched .... & broken parts

hammer guns are for convenience
i know of no good mechanic that will use one on a bolt
or stud or nut that torque is critical

the whirring ratchet does no harm unless you cross thread something

always better to use a breaker bar
at 90 degree angle

good luck
