I use this type of setup...

iPOD 60GB
Griffin Airclick wireless remote with the remote velcro-mounted on the air duct -- top left side next to the tank.
Shure E5C's (In--ear canal monitors with sound isolation)

Check them out on the Shure website...the E4C's are also a great way to go...the problem with speakers built into the helmet are twofold.

1) Sound quality is very poor
2) No noise isolation, forces you to raise the volume in the iPOD way louder, which is very dangerous over time...and you still have tons of road noise.

Futureshop/Circuit City/Best Buy sell the E4C's, which you can buy and try for 30 days...If you're serious about your tunes while riding, it's worth a try...I've been using my setup for over 4 years; never leave home with out it. The noise isolation makes the ride very quite. All I hear is the music and even at low volume, very little road /exhaust noise. If you like the earbuds, you can buy them online much cheaper than FS sells them for...they come with many different gel inserts. I prefer the triple flange, more bass and less noise...

I've never been all that satisfied with in-the-helmet speakers. Especially when I tried to make them work in my Shoei X-Eleven, the recesses really aren't as shallow as some helmets.

What I use is a set of custom-molded ear plugs with speaker inserts. I got them a few years ago at the IMS/Cycle World motorcycle show from a lady that's out of Florida. She's there every year. The sound is wonderful, and since they are custom ear plugs, they also remove 90% of the road/wind noise.

I also use that same Griffin wireless remote thingy that FBA uses... it's quite handy!

They were a package deal - all included when I bought them. They are the tiniest little speaker thingys, I'd say no larger than about 1-2mm diameter that are inserted into a hole that was drilled out of the gels after the mold dried. I'm sure she buys them from a supplier, but they are not like any retail buds I've ever seen.

The sound quality is amazing, partly because your ear is completely sealed off from the outside world, and I'm sure the audio pieces are pretty good quality too. Custom gels from this lady cost about $55, and you add $100 for the earphones. Yup, $155 is pretty darn steep, but the end result can't be beat. I bought two sets, one with and one without speakers.

Have you heard of bone sound transfer technology? At the end of the year, they will have a neck pad that sends sound though your bones. They already have mp3 goggles that send sound this way. It has no effect on your hearing no matter what volume. Do a search on google.

E5C?

Comfort is wonderful, they don't move at all. After a while, you forget that they are even there. A few words of wisdom though if you do get a set - don't go with those mail-order ones that you fit the mold yourself then send it to some place to have a negative/positive made as the final product. I have hear stories about those not working out well at all. Also, when you are being molded, make sure to keep an absolutely straight face... no smiling, no talking, *nothing*. Turns out that the shape of your ear canal changes every time you use your facial muscles, and that will distort the mold.

Now, if you ride with a permanent smile on your face, then make that smile while you are getting molded... otherwise, keep a straight face
