Terminal velocity principles only apply to free falling objects.

This may be technically possible but I would imagine it would take tens of miles to get up to that speed. Enough distance where it would not be reasonable to ever actually see that speed.

well if you're not talking technical, then you need to say so. of course, none of these bikes are practically reasonable anyway so that's kind of a moot point.

and what does power to weight have to do with top speed?

i also need to take exception with this statement. weight does make a difference in terminal velocity during freefall, if applied under certain circumstances, specifically if you add more weight without changing the size or shape of the object so as to increase drag. a lead sphere is gonna fall faster than a ping pong ball.

What about a 20lbs lead sphere vs. 200Lbs lead sphere?

If the drag is exactly the same on each, both will fall at the same rate of accelleration, namely 1G.

Weight doesn't matter. You can drop a feather and a bowling ball in a perfect vacuum and both will fall at the same rate of 1G accelleration. Only air resistance is going to have an effect. But yea a ping pong ball doesn't have enough mass to overcome the air resistance compared to a lead sphere of the same dimensions. In a vacuum though, weight, mass and dimension don't matter.
I think we are saying the same thing....

When it comes to moving a motorcycle (across land), weight does matter. Even if weight does not affect top speed, it will affect acceleration enough where top speed may not be reasonably acheived.

ok, but like i said, there's a big difference between an absolute statement that weight affects top speed and "it will affect acceleration enough where top speed may not be reasonably acheived". i just have a bit of a pet peeve about statements that silently assume so many conditions, that less educated people will take for gospel and spread.

Hmmm
How much does a Boeing 747 weigh?
I was always taught that top speed relied on aerodynamics, get too good at it and things start to leave the ground!!
Now acceleration i think that is a little more WEIGHT related

Acelleration by engine power or accelleration by gravity??. Gravity affects all objects the same. Weight doesn't have an effect on gravitational accelleration.

And if there is not enough weight on the drive tire(s) to overcome the aerodynamic drag, tire spin becomes a factor.
Top speed is not nearly as affected by weight as acceleration is.... if you have the distance to allow it to accelerate to top speed.
this post is going in a big circle LOL.

If I read the Muzzys site right the ultimate light system would be Ti/Carbon. I think I saw where the Carbon can is 3.5lbs and the Ti can is 4.5....

5 pounds
When you think about weight saving 200.00 for the full Ti system will be the last cheap 4-5 pounds you ever lost.
Example: wheels 6-8 pounds, 1500-3000.00.
Ceramic rotors[3], 5 pounds 3000.00.
Ti bolt kit
Ti Axels
Carbon bodywork
All very expensive?
