Muzzy TI vs Muzzy Stainless? Weight?

I don't have my 14 yet, but the mod bug has already hit and I cannot decide which system to go with. Do you think the $200 more is worth it? How much weight is saved?

I know the Muzzy Stainless is way to heavy. I think its over 13 pounds with the Ti canister. Brocks stainless headers and Ti canister is around 8 lbs.. Correct me if I am wrong..

I spoke to Dave at Muzzy yesterday. Full stainless system is 14 pounds. Full Ti system is 7 pounds. Stainless is available right now, Ti system is 5 weeks away due to shortage of Titanium.

If you've got the extra doe for the Ti system, go for it. But to only save 7 pounds I'll just stop eating all that Ben & Jerry ice cream and lose some weight. I save about $500 bucks, and at the drag strip 7 pounds more is going to make a big difference. Besides, nobody will know the whole system is titanium except you.

I'll prob. stick with the Muzzy stainless in that case.. I would have to see the brocks in person, I have never been too impressed with the Hindle lineup(not sure if that has changed in the last 2-3 years). I may wait a couple of weeks to see if anything else comes out that I like.
Anyone gut the stock cans?

I just replaced the Bandits steel can with a titanium slip-on
I immediately lost about 10 pounds on weist

CRAP, I ordered my Ti/Ti system a few weeks back and they said about a month . . . sounds like that will be a couple of months then.

i remember being told that Ti holds up much better than stainless when used for headers. supposedly lightweight/thin (ie: aftermarket) stainless headers can give up the ghost after a couple years or so. can anyone confirm or debunk this?

I always wondered if one could really feel 7 less pounds on a 400+ pound bike?

If a ZX14 weighs 525 lbs (wet) and puts out 170 hp (very round numbers), the ratio is 3.09 lbs per hp. A five pound loss would feel like an increase of 1.6 horsepower or 9/10s of 1 percent. Chances are, you would never "feel" the difference.

I think that the wet weight of a 14 would be more like 550 wet same as a Busa, not 525...you have something like 37LBS of fuel (full tank), add the coolant, brake fluids, oils...and you at 550 or so...no?

I'm sure you are right. I was just using quick number for the math. Using 550 lbs, there would be 1 hp per 3.24 lbs. A five pound weight loss would feel like gaining 1.54 hp or still 9/10s of one percent

FBA, you are right that rider weight should also be factored in.

There is no mathematical or scientific basis for the blanket 5lbs = 1hp conversion. Those numbers are purely arbitrary.

It all boils down to starting horsepower and starting weight. Everything is relative.

speed in the quarter, not top speed tho. weight has insignificant effect on top speed (only rolling resistance of the tires is effected by weight)

Weight does have an effect on top speed. A 500 pound bike with 150 horsepower will have a faster top speed than a 7,000 pound vehicle with 150 horsepower. Weight has no bearing on the terminal velocity during a free fall. Unless you are taking your bike off a cliff, weight will matter.

please explain that to me, because it goes against everything i know about physics. also note that i said _insignificant_, not NONE.

Er . . . nope. As stated by Freek, weight has VERY little to do with top speed. Net horsepower, gearing, rolling resistance, air density, frontal area and coefficient of drag, determine top speed.

Weight DOES have bearing on terminal velocity unless you are dropping something in an absolute vacuum. Terminal velocity is determined by weight (actually mass), frontal area of the falling body, coefficient of drag and air density.

I think there are valid points to both TJ's and and your agrument...I can't imagine that a 7000LB 150HP Hayabusa would do 186...and when an object falls in a vertical motion...yes, drag co. frontal area air density would have an effect...so I think you're both right...and so that being the case I have to ask this:

If an STR8 and a Pinto were both thrown off a cliff, front of each facing down...and Tostito was in the STR8 and TonyDorkman was in his Pinto...which would hit the ground first? :d

Well, I wasn't going to comment on something as drastic as that but a 7000 lb streamliner with solid wheels just might outrun my old V-Max that had the aerodynamics of a brick even with the same net hp. I was thinking the speed difference of one Busa weighing 550 and one weighing 650 . . .

Actually weight (mass) frontal area, Cd, air density are the only factors or so I was taught in aerodynamics in the middle ages.

Tony-the-dork in his "screaming pink" Pinto would hit first, Tostito would be too busy buggering the little boy next door.
