Agreed, it sounds like he's trying to get himself a bike for a few days at your expense.

WTF does he do when a customer put's a new set of rubber on then ?

Sounds like a load of shit to me. I wouldn't take the bike if it didn't have zero miles. I don't know about you guys, but I could blow up a motor in a mile.

For future reference, acetone burns the shit right off the tire. No bs shop burnout needed.

There is no way You could "blow up a motor in a mile" on any new [recent model] sportbike. You certainly could do some less than desirable things. You just couldn't throw a rod, drop a valve, or do anything that would render a motor "blown up".

I am a graduate of MMI and am K-Tech certified. In my younger years, I have worked as a mech at a franchise dealer. Any *good* service department will take every bike for a test ride before delivering to a customer. Any dealer that does not do this is not interested in your safety and should be avoided at all costs. Here are some truths....

1) A dealer that tells you they need to "burnish" your tires is looking for some joy rides. Get a new dealer.

2) Almost all new bikes that have been taken for a shakedown ride still show -0- miles on the odo. If it really came out of the crate and has -0- miles on the trip meter that registers 10ths, your dealer did not take for the standard "ride around a couple of blocks". Get a new dealer.

my dealer told me that they do not do inspection sticker at the dealership, they have to ride the bike to firestone tire place which is mile away and that is why i got 2 miles on mine. isn't this bunch of crap or what.

Mine came with a few miles but I'm not worried, the "tits" were still all there on the tire and I have followed the local dealer's mechanics on their test rides. They warm the bike for about a minute, shut it off to recheck oil level and proceed with a few mile ride to make sure everything is in proper order. The test ride starts slow to let the engine warm and then is followed by a moderate ride that wouldn't concern the most anal new owner. They don't let "lot boys" make the ride, I think the youngest I've seen making this ride is at least 35 and usually much older.

About the burnishing issue, I just got the normal stern warning that the tires were new and to work my way up to maximum cornering angles to scrub the tires in.

A dealer claiming to have to 'burnish' the tires is probably the stupidest f'ing thing I have ever head of. I am assuming they want to do a 'burn out'on a brand new bike.

I would be looking for another dealer myself.

Anyone considering a machine of the caliber of the '14, that is not clued in to properly running in the tires has no business buying this kind of machine in the first place.

My bike had 0 on it. Over all prepping was good. Oil filled up correctly, chain set perfectly. It was obvious they adjusted the chain as the cotter bin had been out and you could see the axel nut had been loosened. Tire pressures dead on............I checked.

My dealer took it up the street and back in front of me, and notice the clutch fluid was leaking. He pulled the cap, cleaned the seal, then took another short ride to see if it fixed the leak. I have had no problems with that. But a tire burnish? What the @#$#$ is that?
