Never heard of it - ever.
I know they do the PDI test ride/shakedown but I've never heard of "burnishing".

I don't think so. Tell him you will "burnish" your own tires.
Main Entry: 1bur·nish
Pronunciation: 'b&r-nish
Function: transitive verb
Etymology: Middle English burnischen, from Middle French bruniss-, stem of brunir, literally, to make brown, from brun
1 a : to make shiny or lustrous especially by rubbing b : POLISH 3
2 : to rub (a material) with a tool for compacting or smoothing or for turning an edge

Ha ha.
I'll burn my own tire in thanks!
Nobody has ridden my bike but me!
They charged the battery, ran the bike for 4 min idling in shop, checked fluids and I rode off!
Scuffed my own tires and brakes in thanks!

Sounds like crap. Like many others on this board I have owned a lot of new bikes. I hav never heard of any dealer wanting to "burnish" your new tires. Next thing theay are going to want to break it in for you.

Dealer is suppose to test ride bike first. I worked at a dealership for a while and the factory tires always had some kind of shit on them that makes them light up easy.. Several squids went down leaving the dealership so we always spun the rear to get the crap off..

When I picked up my bike, the odometer read -0- miles but that was because the odo doesn't register 10ths. The trip-meter read 0.3 miles. Any dealer that doesn't at least take the bike around the block is stupid. Too much liability at risk to not test ride a bike after EVERY service (indluding PDI).

there is a silicone film on the tire when it is new. The dealer takes the bike out and burns the film off because most people dont know about this and take a corner, hit gas and bike goes bye bye!!!! Make sense? My dealer has no idea they were supposed to do this so I took my bike home and ran sand paper and a block around tire to remove film!! Good luck!!

BULLSHIT.
When you get new tires mounted do they require the tire machine rat to go rag on your bike to "burnish" them?
Not.
Wake up guys. Do you really want some 17 year old oil rat "burnishing" your tires?
Both my 12 and new R1 had zero miles when I took delivery.
If a dealer tells you they have to break the tires in, find another dealer. Thats bullshit.

true about tires being slick when new (doesn't everyone know this?) but never heard of a dealer needing to wear it off for you. anytime i've had new tires installed (or when i bought the bike) the dealer reminded me the tires are super slick and to take it easy for the first 100kms. and yes, they'de take it once aroudn the block just to make sure everything feels fine. that's it.

I'm hearing the same old horror stories with the rear wheel chain tension leaving the stores as if they bought a bike at Guitar Center. I'm sure the "pitch" (pun intended) of the chain tightens to a higher note, while loading the out-put shaft bearing on the engine, plus the rear wheel bearing (and seals) are crushing as you squat the bike (shortens the swing arm) on a hard throttle.
Sorry guys, I wish I warned you sooner. Anyone still waiting, call your service manager. Say... "Check for chain slack, then clean the brake pads/discs. Everything else... leave the fuck alone." Trust me, these bikes need only a wet battery, a wet tank, chain slack, brake clean, no wash, and you are out of there!
You don't want some knuckle dragger taking a hand tool to a drain plug. Torque it at home. They are tight at the factory anyway. They k-d's just take the wrench, crush the gasket even more, while pulling the threads out of distortion. If you walk up to the your bike that's been sitting in the same spot for 5 minutes, look down at the ground under the bike for fresh leaks. No leak?....Leave!
As far as the burnish deal, I believe blitz "capital"-ized on that one. Let me know how he's going to "burnish" the sides without throwing it away?

The chain adjust for the 14 is the same measurement using either the side or center stand. I'm sure you know how to line up the marks being even and all that, so the meat to this is to spin the wheel and find the tightest spot on the chain. Take a metric ruler, mark a range that can measure the chain slack range being in between and not to exceed: 32 ~ 38 mm (1.3 ~ 1.5 in.)
Us the lower rung of the chain as your starting, or marking point. Lift the chain at it's center (between sprockets) and make sure the slack-to-no slack range... falls within the measured range. Again, your base (or pointer) being the lower rung to read your second number. Rear axle torque 127 N-m (13.0 kgf-m, 94 ft-lb.)
If you turn the wheel and find another high spot that is out of range, then readjust.

Sounds like a load of shit to me. I wouldn't take the bike if it didn't have zero miles. I don't know about you guys, but I could blow up a motor in a mile.
For future reference, acetone burns the shit right off the tire. No bs shop burnout needed.
