2nd ride out today...

Compared to the Busa...feels very much like a Busa, not like a 12R in that it has the same throttle feel as the Busa...loose and plenty of TQ/ Power. Ride is similar but smoother....she handles the bumps like a refined German sports car, firm -- not sloppy, yet glides over the road. Power above 6K is just completely outragous and totally fucking stupid.

I had the needle buried tonight and I can't believe how fucking fast the revs climb after 6k...I think this bike will beat the K5/6 and 10R in roll ons...providing it starts over 6k. One thing I know for sure, start at 80MPH in 2nd...nothing stock (include a Boss Hoss 502) will get to top speed faster than this bike running through the gears. Its quite sick IMO.

Pulled the front up a few times in 1st and 2nd with the greatest of ease. The brakes stop this thing dead in it's tracks; had to push the lever to the furthest setting so as not to use more than 2 fingers to engage them. (no need to)

She is getting even faster with more mileage being put on now...

Interestingly enough,. it can be as gentle as a pussycat, or as evil as a nuclear warhead. If a rider doesn't push this thing, it seems gentle harmless and totally tame, but twist the throttle at 6K and its devastating. It hits like a fucking warhead. My Busa was also devastating at speeds, but not to this degree. Now...I think I prefer the relatively light TQ at low RPM over the Busa's gut wrenching tractor-like low RPM pulls. I'm still in awe and wonder why anyone needs this type of power...but I guess it's never enough. I figure my 10R & R1 will be sitting for a few weeks before they get out of the garage...this thing is too hard to resist.

Tranny is like butter...have to look at the shft indicator sometimes to see if it actually shifted; you don't really feel much.

Engine heat -- nada...cold as ice

I love what it looks like too. Pulled up to a big HD dealer today and 20 people immediately surrounded us...asking a million questions, but mostly "does it really do what the mags say"? They were all jealous of course and most of them were quoting the 197.5 HP numbers they all read about...there were 100K HD's sitting next to me. no one could give a fuck about them, they were all eyes glued to the beast...cheap thrills!

More to come in the next few days. 100 miles on it now, driven like I stole it and still purring like a kitten (the bike I mean). Amzoil 200 race oil going in tomorrow aft.

This one's a keeper.
Great write up !!! I like this part best>> It hits like a fucking warhead<<<<< Still no word on the bikes getting to FL........ Damn i want to ride this puppy so bad it's killing me ...!!!!

Sounds alot like a Vmax when the VBoost kicks in. I always got a big rush out of holding the rpm at just shy of 6000 then snapping the throttle WAO. I'm happy to read that the 14 is a pleasure to ride at low rpm's though, now I'll get to have my cake and eat it too!!!

QWICKR, you'll be amazed, but don't be snappin it before you get a little taste first...she's very scary on that 1st snap if you're not expecting it. She pops up easy and quick...and comes down hard and well uhhhh....not too gracefully.

Its all about throttle control. I have played some with the wheellie factor and while it does pull the front up fast it can be controled. Just have to use smaller increments of control than I had to on my ZRX. Scary but fun. Yesterday passed a car in a second gear corner and dailed on a little much and the back end stepped out just right and held no highside WHEW!! She does demand respect.

FBA,
Great reports. Even the 91 ZX-11 demanded respect. Strange as it may seem my weight of 150 lbs at the time would allow the back end to break away quicker than most I suspect. I never even thought about most people weight being some 30-50 lbs more than me. This will tend to keep her more planted. Not a problem anymore, I've bulked up to 155 lbs. Hey my tires last longer too..

I had the "problem" of the ZX12R coming up in first at 6K stock, and also at the 1-2 shift at full-out during street races. This got worse after adding the pipe and PC3R tuning. I put the lowering dogbones on the 12R and it great reduced the skyward launching. Hopefully this same mod with the dogbones will change the wheelie tendency and keep it a little more under control?

Another 100 miles this morning, including some of my favorite twisties. I continue to be amazed at how easily the 14 turns in, and how steady it feels at some pretty good lean angles. Not quite my 10R, but a lot better than I expected. As another post pointed out, gas mileage isn't great (33 mpg on my first tank, keeping it under 4500rpm).

QWICKR, yes and no. I have much saddle time on the rear wheel of a V-Max in gears 1-3. The V-Max is a pleasure to ride on its rear tire, snap the throttle in first at over 6000 rpm and up it comes, and you can modulate the throttle easily to keep it there or start shifting at your leisure. The 14 comes on not so linear and it isn't as tame as the Max, I haven't tried to wheelie the 14 but I have explored the powerband a bit and it really isn't even similar to the effortless revving of the Yamaha, the 14 is more explosive.

Greg - the lights are good, but mine were aimed a little low and really limited sight distance on low beams. I just got done wring for my V1 and I turned the headlight assy adjustment screws out (up) a tad while I was in there to see if that will help.

The low beams have good coverage and a VERY sharp cutoff at the top. They work well around town, but they are a little frustrating in traffic and at speed - I haven't been able to see as far down the road as I would like so far.

The high beams are a little lacking compared to my ZZR. They are beight, but VERY focused right down the center of the road. That's good because you can see stuff pretty far away if it's absolutely straight in front of you, but it doesn't do much to light up the shoulders of the road, so if an animal was just about to cross the road out at a distance, I'm not sure that it would be lit very well.

thanks for the reply.... i appreciate it
sharply demarcated lights work great on cars.... but stink on bike
so, it looks like while the ZX-14 will have great CANDLEPOWER... some tweaking still needs to be done
BMW lights have stunk for eons.... which is why almost every BMW ever sold doesn't leave the dealership until MOTOLIGHTS are put on
they are incredible
you can get them in
35W and 50W variety
they light up everything in a 160 degree swath.... almost directly to the side of the lights as well

I've had to adjust the headlight(s) on every bike I've ever had (new or used) - just like adjusting the levers and shifter, I consider this normal pre-flight ritual on any new bike.

THat and removing all stickers/reflectors/rear fender - those all usually last bout an hour or 2 after I get home.

Stickers kill, little known fact :P

I'd have to say that my ZZR1200 had the best lights I've ever seen on a bike. Big reflectors there made the difference.

OMG... the ZRX has the absolute worst headlight I've ever seen in my life! Anything is an improvement over that 1980-generation POS light fixture The first thing I did with my ZRX was to replace the bulb with an 80w/80w PIAA. That helped some, but it still sucked.

As soon as I can find PIAA H9 and H11's in a color temp and wattage that I like (not that blue shit), these stock bulbs are being replaced.
