I have a red one on order also, and was wondering how the color looks in person. I've looked at hundreds of pictures of ZX14's in the past few months and in some of them the guys sitting on them are flat footed, and on others they are on their tip toes (I realize that it is because of their individual height). I'm 5'9" tall and I'm curious to see how I will stand with my bike (flat foot or tip toe, or somewhere in between). Also, the color of your bike is different than the color in the brochures. How does it look in person?

High speed wise, yes.

Tank bags are better for higher speed stuff.

General toting duties, I prefer backpacks.

I don't ride with either -- long trips get a small duffle bag strapped to the rear seat. On my other bikes, I am always able to fit the essentials under the seat.

Difficult to do when the rear seat is occupied though.

Mag tank bags have a helluva time on plastic tanks.

Is the tank plastic on the 14?

Questions.
Ok here goes.
Red: Really nice in person, sunlight or parking lot light, "Looks just like Ducati red" From a Ducati owner sitting side by side,
Gas tank: Steel. Mag bags work no problem. Front part is plastic, back half steel.
Seat height: I'm a big guy 6'5" but I only half a 32" inseam I sit flat footed. The bike feels very light for being big, center of gravity/ mass center low.
Seat room: Small, a really smart guy would design a seat base ( 2part ) Custom seat in front and trunk to use stock rear seat cover or like cover for easy access truck in rear, I'd buy it, Are you listening Mr. Corbin!!
Power: Good / Linear / Lots above 5 grand. There is a pronounced flat spot from 3.5 to 4 grand thou. Suspect it can by mitigated by PC tuner and pipe.
Impressions: Generally good Kawi should sell lots of these bikes and most people will be happy with them. I met Psycho 1122 for the first time last night and he and I went up to a local Sat. nite car and bike show. He has a very nice ZX 12. We and some more friend are doing a run to Payson Sunday early AM. It is a high speed four lane divided mountain hwy. I will mention to him to post and y'all can have a subjective option.

I'll second the "red looks good in person" comment. When I found out that all of the dealers near me were getting red, I was a little dissapointed. The whole time I was riding up to the dealer on Friday, I was wondering if I'd be unhappy with a red bike after a while. Looking at pictures, I was never that impressed with the red - it just didn't look that striking.

When I got to the dealer, I was pleasantly surprised. Like Gene says, it looks like Ducati red in person. It's not too "orangy" like some reds can be. There's no metalic bits, just a nice medium/deep red. I'd say that it's "fire engine" red, but even some fire engines don't look all that great these days

Overall, I'm happy with the color. If I was able to chose between a blue or red bike side-by-side, I'd probably have chosen the blue simply because it goes better with my helmet, but all of the rest of my gear is black or silver, or gray, so that really doesn't matter much. This is the first "flashy" color bike I've had - I think I'll enjoy it

Now for a nice Sunday ride!!!
