Insurance
Hate to bring up such a bummer topic but reality's a bitch. To those who have received quotes for insurance (especially you guys from Texas), how much is it gonna cost, what's your age, and who's your agent???

Geico $830.00 a year full coverage. Clean record.
Just keep calling around. The more places you call the better rates you will find.

Hey Progressive quoted me $4,300 a year. The Geico quote is odd. I got $830. a year from them. Have you tried Allstate?

You know, if an outfit didn't want my business I'd just as soon they say so rather than quoting ridiculous prices like $4300/year. Several years ago State Farm quoted me $5,000/yr to insure a VFR. I evenutally went with Progressive because they gave me the cheapest quote @ $700 or $800. When pressed the State Farm agent admited they really didn't like insuring motorcycles. So why didn't they just say so!... ? Is there some law concerning this?

I agree. They always seem to do this. About 10 years ago I got a quote on a Guzzi for $2300 a year. I ended up paying $120 a year through Dairyland Insurance. I asked the Progressive agent if the quote was a mistake. He said probably. I asked if they could correct it. His responce? NO!

All agents are independent. I had two different Allstate agents quote the same bike and coverage, one wanted over $2,000 and the other only $600 for the EXACT SAME POLICY.
Trust me, it's the agent, not the carrier, that's trying to rip you off.

Just paid for the first year coverage at State Farm for the 14, had to pay for the entire year up front, which is different than it was a few years ago.
$340 for 12 months w/$250 ded.
Age 36, Midwest, multiple vehicle, house, and life policy, probably what keeps the prices down for me, but in any case, I was very surprised! I am sure the policy will change the 2nd year, I should pay for the 2nd year up front as well at this rate.

$290/6mos w/$1000 ded collision, $0 ded comp. Texas, clean record, 36 yo.
I go with high deductable in collision 'cause I'm never gonna file a claim unless I think it's totalled... why pay the extra? If you file a claim, they'll just raise the rates to get their money back.

+1 on the higher deductables. My yearly cost was $1144.00 for full coverage (Canada). I called a lot of different agents, but the cost spread was less than $150 when all the options were the same. The company that carries my cars (3) and house does not write insurance on sport bikes..............period!
Checked with another carrier that would insure my bike...........full coverage for $750, but they advised they would need me to move my car policies to them first, they were not even close on my cars or house completely negating the savings on the '14!
One carrier in Canada gives a decent break if you have an alarm system installed - (Primmum). Scorpio does not have their ZX 14 specific kit out yet and I was a little concerned letting someone install a generic system on the '14 with the Canbus electrics..........seemed like potential problems to me. Don't really neeed an alarm as my garage is like Fort Knox with a monitored alarm that is hooked into the house system. I drive a company vehicle during the day, so my bike is rarely out of my sight.
BTW..............46, with 1 ticket in the last 4 years.

Curious what people are paying currently.
I have USAA - but they don't insure motorcycles anymore - they "shipped" me to Progressive and was told 2200 full coverage - Hey, I'm 43, license to drive motorcycles now for over 20 years, perfect record, etc.... Did some shopping around and got GMAC to cover me for 642 per yer (full coverage, with 250 deductible).
Anyone beat that on ZX-14 - I haven't checked GEICO yet - willing to try.
