Headlight Bulbs Confirmed
Thanks to the parts diagram now being available online, we now know that the bulbs are... I think. According to the parts list, there are two different headlight bulbs in use on the 14. The lows are 55w H11's and the highs are 65w H9's.

They look like fun to change.
Bulbs usually last a very long time, so no big deal. With a pair of low beams and a pair of highs, you'll always have light.

How difficult is it to set the running lamps as a dual system? I like some color on the Nose like the Honda's and Yamaha's

Running lights are the turn signals that have a dual bulb. (Low Lamp) on while running and become turn signals (high lamp) when turning. Honda and Yamaha current sportbikes have this system on them. Nothing hotter than an R1 at night, pretty sweet.

HID lamps would look pretty cool. I have a S2000 at the shop that had the lamps ripped out of it, maybe this is stupid but because of this maybe it's better we don't.

Gotcha! Now I know what you mean...
I don't think Kawi's been going "running" lights with their signal lamps because they have added the euro-style positioning lamps to their bikes. My ZZR has clear positioning lamps above the headlights just like the 14 does, so they didn't need to have the marker lights on all the time too. I think it's a DOT requirement to have *something* other than just the headlight running on the front of a motorcycle... so it's up to the manufacturer to decide how they will accomplish that. Some use positioning lamps, some use the turn signals.
If you were going to make the turn signals into running lights, I guess all you'd have to do would be to switch out the lamp socket to a dual-post arrangement, then get new bulbs, and run an extra set of "running lamp" wires to each position. Shouldn't be too difficult as long as you can find a bulb socket with dual-posts that will fit in that lens.

I have this strange urge to build a relay board to independently fire off each of the lights. Since all four would be on when using high beams, would be ... different.

You could run just one of the two low beams during the day, instead of both.

Sounds good, I suspected it would be pretty easy, I've seen plenty of Kaws and Suzuki's with those lamps lit so I figured it could not be that hard. One Note, the Honda uses a 4 bulb system and the generator does not make enough power if you burn 4 beams while in traffic (fan cooling) the first year. Now were looking at 6 lamps just makes one wonder.

the low beam bulbs are decent ( H11=55w, 1350 lumens), and the high beams should kick ass (H9=65w, 2100 lumens!). the H9s are the brightest bulbs you can get other than HID bulbs (i'm talking REAL HID btw). also, the H9s in particular are supposed to be very white for a halogen.

That's a good point... most low beam bulbs are only 45w. Heck, I think my brother's XX low beam (H7) is only 35w, and there's only ONE bulb! Talk about crappy lighting.
I'm running 80w/80w PIAA Platinum Superwhite (3800k) in my ZZR... I'd like something comparable for this bike. On the other hand, I only have two filaments running at a time on my ZZR - two for high or two for low, totalling 160w either way. The 14 will have all 4 filaments running when the highs are on... that's 210w of lighting... pretty impressive
I wish I had lumen numbers for all of these, that would make for a much better comparison.

generally the piaa's put out LESS light than standard equivalents, they just appear brighter cause of the whiter colour. Having 80W bulbs will make up for that and give you a bit more light, but the difference in efficiency between different models of bulbs seem to matter more than wattage. Daniel Stern's lighting website is a great source of info. Not sure which bulbs your ZZR used?

ZZR uses H4's, as do two other cars I own because I swapped out to Euro-spec Hella headlights. Makes keeping spare bulbs on-hand easy, plus I've got a pile of OEM & Hella 55w bulbs that I probably should put up on eBay

H4s are good at 1000 low, 1650 high, but the h9/h11 combo does significantly better. unless of course u use overwatt h4s, which go up to 2000 low, 3550 high1 that's more light output than standard hid bulbs

My H4's are 80w/80w, so there's no doubting that they put out more light than the stock 45/55 bulbs that they replaced. They do a nice job, and I like the slightly whiter, but not quite blue-ish color of the Platinum superwhite 3800k PIAA's.
