an over square motor will generally make more hp and less torque
and undersquare motor will generally make less hp and more torque..

adding 1mm more to a zx12r brings it to 1228cc.. So 90% of the increased displacement is via the stroke hence primarily more torque...

Closed loop systems measure exhaust gases as well as intake conditions...temp, atmospheric pressure, humidity etc...a non-closed loop system does not measure exhaust gases. Closed loop is a way of measuring whats going on in the intake and engine and by doing that, the engine management system can adjust fuel/air etc to compensate based not only on intake conditions, but on emmision results as well (a good thing). Standard on most if not all F/I cars/trucks. Harley's don't have it as far as I remember. (Big surprise)...I may have missed a few things, but that's the general idea. Closed loop is better.

I've seen a "wideband" power commander. If you do that on one of these bikes, do you just add an O2 bung and sensor, then use the WBPC to control the ECU more accurately? Or do they only work on bikes that come from the factory with closed-loop systems?

I'm going through this same tuning stuff with my 944 Turbo right now... adding electronic boost controller, WBO2 gauge & sensor w/simulated narrow band output for the ECU, piggyback system for fine-tuning, MAF, etc. It's a ton of gagettry just to keep the head gasket intact in a turbo application
