2007?...or 2008?

....I'd like to have ABS, a slipper clutch, a digital speedo, body-colored engine cover side panels (the Foreman grills), LED tutn-sigs, and a very loud horn on my ZX-14...I hope Kawasaki does something like this for 2007....maybe 2008?

You could arrange yourself a 14 with ABS
Digital speedo can be bought (Sigma)
You can have a custom paint job
You can customize the turns signals
You can buy an extra horn

Kinda like waiting for computers. There will ALWAYS be something newer, faster, better just over the horizon. If you need or want a bike buy it now and just enjoy it. By the time you need/ want the next one technology will have marched on and you'll enjoy the improvements.

I wouldn't count on a slipper clutch for a hyper touring bike. They're nice, but the purpose of the zx14 really doesn't require one. I'm not too sure about clutch strength and longevity with a slipper...I don't know of any new 1000 with a slipper that can handle a crazy amount of passes like the zx14 clutch can.

Would be nice as an option though.

I don't ride hard enough on the street to really notice the slipper in the 10 - the track experience however made me a believer.

If this was a 10R, you might see major changes in a year or two. Unfortunately, bikes in this market don't sell *nearly* as well as 6's or 10's, so I'm afraid that we'll be waiting at least 3-4 years (at best) before we see things like a new gauge pod (for digital speedo), slipper clutch, etc.

Just look at how long it took Kawi to update the ZX-11 that came out in 1990... the ZZR1200 didn't come out till 2002. That's a pretty long stretch, and they really didn't change much other than a ever-so-slightly updated motor and new plastic. The ZZR kept Kawasaki "sort of" in the running because it at least matched the performance (if not the refinement) of the CBR1100XX, but it was still no match for the 'busa in a straight line race. Unless *lots* of people step up and buy the '14, I can't imagine we'll see a major product update anytime soon.

I do hope they don't keep the GTR1400 away from the US market - the FJR really needs some honest competition, and a lot of people are buying in that segment right now... just ask Yamaha, BMW, and Honda.

2007?...or 2008?

I'd like to have a compression sensor wired to the instrument display where it flashes a Green wallet icon.
Maybe the wallet will flash... "Buy New - Bike NOW!"...... "Buy New - Bike NOW!"

How about a descending scale compression sensor where it slowly flashes warnings?
Something like turning on the key, a default mode would read, "Would you like to go over 200 MPH today? Burn a few hours on the baby, and the next time you turn on, it defaults to, "How does 175 MPH sound to ya today? Hell, I don't know what it should default to next? How about.... "Don't look at a Busa rider in the eyes today."

There is not going to be any major updates in this decade
They are just going to build a new ZX-1% in 2012
GTR-1400 and Z1400 don't count
Perhaps, just perhaps KHI could do 14R model using factory turbo?
Dreams...

Digital Speedo? Remove Analog? Why?

digital read-out speedo with large characters = quicker data recognition/comprehension = you see the numbers and instantly know what the numbers mean = quicker reaction time to adjust your speed

round analog gage = tiny and many numbers crammed on the face of the dial if speed potential is high = slower data recognition/comprehension = 'was I going 25 or 35?...65 or 70?...75 or 80?' = slower reaction time to slow bike down = possibly more speeding tickets

....and its ergonomically easier on the eyes inmho....I think round analogs with numbers are utilized because of space considerations....a 200mph speedo in a straight line would be too wide, so they bend the straight line into a circle to take up less space....now you can use that same space to present LARGE digital numbers to indicate speed readings...simple, huh?...

...I think the analog tach is a different animal because I think its natural for riders to recognize that as engine rpm rise, so does the movement of the tach needle....its a symbiotic relationship between engine sound/exhaust, tach needle position, and 'seat of the pants' feedback...peripheral vision is all that's needed...and a shift light if you're drag racing or operating on the street at the high end of the rpm spectrum
