Trunk Space <bad news>

Comment from Dragbike.com article:

"There is not much room under the seat for storage; a Power Commander will fit, and that's about it."

Weird...that is one bigass tail too. I thought it was going to be like a 93 gsxr that could fit a 6 pack.

my zzr can fit a small can of chain lube, several cans of co2, a tire patch kit, a big 17mm hex wrench, a multi-tool, and a cargo net... sounds like I'll have to prune that down for the 14. what the heck could be back there taking up all that space?

You stuff the things inside the fairing
Thats' what I did with the Bandit 1200/S
I stuffed there a fusebox, alarm system control unit, CLS-200 oiler control unit
the oil bottle, adjustable grip heaters control system
The original space occupied by tools now holds Nokia & Ericsson phone DC adapters
and is otherwise mostly unoccupied, the tools are in the tankbag with additional tools
to put some weight on the front too
If I can so this on a Suzuki why not with Kawasaki
As long as I can throw on three Givi Maxia 52L hard bags, too!

I think the trunk is so small because of rear tire clearance for drag racing on slammed bikes.

Thats one thing I will miss about my ZRX, it had huge storage capacity under the seat. It was handy when you stopped to pick something up and didn't have a back pack or anything to stuf a few goodies in

Oh yeah - I *loved* that about my ZRX, you could fit an entire 6-pack in there and still have room for a compact rain suite! Gotta love dual shocks

The low seat height surely dictated the lack of space.

I was talking about a fix - not gonna happen? Huh?
Well surely not for the "ordinary" (oxymoron?) ZX-14/ZZR1400
BUT
GTR1400 is coming 2007 and I surely hope the pillion sits higher
Also I want HUGE hard bags
Perhaps Z1400 has pillion sitting higher?
OR
You're right: Kawasaki will not change *anything* on this babe
not in Z1400 (except stripping it naked)
not in GTR1400 (except that shaft & bags & taller windshield & heated grips & ...)
If there ever will be these models
I think it all depends on the ZX-14/ZZR1400 sales...

I guess that means a 4 into 1 exhaust and hang the nitrous bottle off the left passenger peg.

Actually my biggest worry is that the "dig-in-hole" or recess in the tank
was for tucking the helmet in the front - not belly on the back of the tank

I hope they fix that in the GTR1400 model

It even had a drain hole for the melted ice that was cooling your 6 packs!

i'm willing to bet dino will find a way to make a small cabin out of that tail. it looks pretyt volumnous from the outside, not sure what is filling it, but i bet it can be relocated if one is willing to put the effort into it. if it is indeed a matter of lots of space left on teh underside for slammed bikes, then dino's aluminium trunk mod could fill that in easy.

i was thinking of possibly making pockets, or access storage inside the fairing.

problem is that if you look at the photo in the review you'll see that the small storage space and all the relays are in fact mounted on what seemed to be the undertail. There reall wasnt any "thickness" other than the inch or so of vertical space. The cowl is flush to the seat so there is no room under that (unlike the 10R), and the seat sits directly on the framerails. It will take some real thought and relocation of stuff to figure this one out.
