Blackfoot Motorsports is in Calgary, Alberta...................so the price is in Canuck dollars! Canadian list for the '06 ZX 14 is $15,669.00, so the Blackfoot price for Canada is a good one at $13,449.00 + about $500 for frt/pdi/doc.
We get to pay more for our bikes in Canada for the privilege of living here!
I live in Edmonton and the Blackfoot price was about $800.00 better than I could get locally. The atitude of the Edmonton dealers was that they could sell every ZX 14 they were getting this year close to list, so they didn't really care about Blackfoot's smoking price.
Anyone in Canada do any insurance shopping yet, particularly in Alberta?

Speaking of insurance, I got a few quotes already. I'm 35 yrs old also.
Geico = $2,600 per yr, full coverage w/ $500 deduct
Progressive = $ 1,335 per yr, full coverage w/ $1000 deduct
GMAC = $598 per yr, full coverage w/$250 deduct + they'll pay up to $1,500 to replace gear/equipment with no deduct, you pay the $250 deduct if it eclipses that cost. This is a one time only thing, so if your stuff gets ripped off after replacement, you pay to replace it the second time.
I have ONE (1) speeding ticket on my record from Oct 03 (21-25 over limit) and I got that on the Blackbird back in FL. I remember speeding, but not by that much; maybe 70 in a 55.
The info I gave to them all was 2006 / Kawasaki ZX-14 / 1352 cc.
I haven't called the GMAC just yet but I will in about 30-45 days when I need the insurance. What I can't understand though is why such a big difference bewteen the cost when the info is the same?

The difference with the Edmonton dealers isnt that they are priced so much more..You say Calgary beat Edmonton's prices by 800?? If youre only paying 500 for frt/pdi and doc, I'd be very surprised. If you got that in writing..good for you! Are the Edmonton dealers backing out the 450 insurance rebate?...cuz Calgary is keeping that. Throw in a tank of fuel and now you've spent the better part of a day driving to save 250 bucks. I'm not so sure saving 250 bucks is worth being punted to the back of the line when you need service from a local Edmonton dealer....just my .02

Quote was in writing, Frt/PDI/admin./tire tax - $506.00. I am assuming you are one of the Edmonton dealers or another dealer. The fact you would discriminate against a bike not purchsed at your dealership for service work tells me that you are not a dealer I would want to have my bike serviced at. You are required to do warranty work by Kawasaki.
I do 90% of my own maintenance, so it's not really an issue anyway.
I purchased a bike from Blackfoot before and found them excellent to deal with. There was absolutely no b.sing around with the numbers regarding the purchase. The saleman followed up several times to see how things were going with the new bike. I was also given the top end of the range for my current bike as a trade in.
My preference would be to deal locally. The decision to to buy from Blackfoot was not just the $ saving, I have just found them superior to the local dealers.

Why would anyone take their motorcycle back to a dealer for service anyway? The first, and last, time I took a motorcycle of mine to a dealer was in 2001 when my new ZRX needed it's first oil change & service. The "service" department not only took 2 weeks to change the oil, they also failed to even *finger tighten* the oil drain plug. There was a 3" puddle of oil under the bike in *their* parking lot when I walked out after paying the ticket.
No motorcycle I own will EVER go back to a dealership for service, unless it's an expensive item that is being replaced under warranty!

I confirmed the $800 price diference was the Edmonton dealer holding back the $450 insurance rebate, same as what Blackfoot is doing, so the price difference is in fact $800. I don't think riding the bike home for 180 miles is a big deal. I'll get a chunk of break in miles out of the way quickly!

+1! No one will take as much care working on your bike as the owner will. Most shops are on a flat rate system where doing work fast rather carefully is the rule.
If you get the valves adjusted and they loose a shim in the head, how long do you think a dealership will look for the shim before buttoning up the motor?
Anyone who can read and is prepared to buy the odd special tool can service there own bike.
I get allot of satisfaction working on my bike, it's part of the experience of bike ownership.
The first service is a joke on a bike, essentially a $150.00 oil change. I can check bolts, steering head bearing tighness and all the other things they claim to look at when your bike gets it's first service. I know for sure then nothing is overlooked.

My most recent experience with dealership service came full circle just yesterday , I did the valve adjustment on my KLR , when I bought this bike from my brother in law it had ( within the last 150 kilometers ) just had it's first service with valve adjustment done ..... I've put 3000 k's on it since ( total 7400 now )and all four shims needed replacing .... one two sizes .... anyone think they even checked the damn clearances ? I never get anything done outside my garage .... well sometimes the driveway

If you keep yer bike beyond the one year warranty and have the extended warranty then yer gonna need to provide proof of maintenance if the time comes for an out of warranty repair that might be covered under the service contract.
In this case, havin dealer maintenance records can be a big help.
I'm not sayin I get everything done at the stealership of course.
Doesn't make stealership techs any better than independent techs but will carry some more weight with the contract company.

You just have to save your receipts to prove the work was done .... of course if you fuck things up it is your problem you created ......The last time I needed warranty , I took the offending pieces in to show them ..... not really what they wanted me to do but the service guy knew me reasonably well , ordered the bits and away I went ....
