ZX14 Ram Air Inlet Position Question

Notice that the Inlet is higher on the front of the bike. Is that a cosmetic move or does that have anything to do with the increased performance?

It's unlikely to have anything substantial to do with increased engine performance, as it seems unlikely the pressure is markedly if any higher at that location than at the ZX-12R's location.

My guess is it has to do with finding something that works as well while allowing the headlights and allowing the fairing to be closer to the front wheel than the 12's is, which probably prevents from using an under-fairing snorkel as with the 12.

The new 10R has the same design solution.

Probably all cosmetic, just to have the modern kawi ram air shape like the zx10 and 636.

They made it so big that it actually causes SUCKTION (like my new word?)
and PULLS the bike forward... so it runs without gas!!!

It can swallow fat old ladies and birds without burping too...

how about thin young ones? when you get home you can let them all out and keep them in the garage.

actually I believe the zx12r scoop and the zx10r/6r style make pressure in the tracts in two different ways. the 12r takes a slice out and is designed to recover the maximum pressure at top speeds. The open face in the frontal area with the highest pressure, (zx10r style) works off the frontal pressure buildup infront of the bike. The zx10r style makes pressure sooner according to an article in sport rider in 1999. at that time the r6 and rc51 styles made the best pressure at lower speeds and continued to be better all the way up.
The 12r wasnt in the tests. I have the data somewhere, and i posted it a few years ago on here.
Just as aside note: the suzuki ramair systems performed the worst. Not even close in ram recovery compared to the hondas and r6.

why cant the mags do some real testing with some real controls to keep things truely comparable. Its not that hard to do.

I havent seen a bike mag in years.... do they do anything usefull these days? Or is every other issue still a 600 shootout.

You actually find useful info in Roadracing World many issues.

I honestly can't recall useful info in any other American mag -- other than Motorcyclist's recent helmet study -- and for that matter the British mags probably aren't useful either, just better entertainment and quality of information, but not so much useful.

they had to move it to the fairing to try new styling, as they already had the best styled ram air when they built the "00 12R.
