KLX400/DRZ400
Anybody out there besides fish with an actual 'have owned or ridden' opinion of these bikes? I dunno...I'm just drawn to these bikes...I think it'd make a heck of a freindly trail bike for my mass...I'm really gettin' into this dirt thing, not motocross (don't have the reflexes or the insanity to do it), but just trails riding...out there in the boonies, desert, high sierras, and such...with a larger tank and better seat, or course...anybody?
Hey, not a slam on you fish...I already know you like your bike...I already know I like your bike...but perhaps there's someone out there with a different opinion or encouragement...tell me why I should or shouldn't get a ready-made street legal dirt bike like this?

Rode my buddies' the other night. Not bad, decent power, his KLX is on the street, electric start very nice, didn't seem to be much more power than newbusa's WR 250. Seat not bad, tank is small. handles very nice.

Have rode the KLX, and found the 400 a little weak for my tastes. Own a KTM 640 SuperMoto, so it's not a fair comparrison. Try to be patient, a new 450 could be here soon. The guy at the cycle shop figures it's right around the corner and throwing up roost!!

...a KLX450?...its not like a fantasy of his, is it?...that'd be cool if it was for real!..a lightweight KLX500 street legal...now that would be way WAY COOL!!!

...there's a brand-new KLX400SR callin' me as I type this....and a hop-up kit that makes it call even louder...nice trail bike, huh?

...g'mornin' fellas...just woke up...needed to catch up on some much needed sleep...will ride in a few hours with jato and his KLR...
Specs? Its a re-skinned DRZ400S
Diffs? Its a re-skinned DRZ400S...meaning it has all the street legal lights, a trick instrument panel, and electric start that the Enduros don't....and oh....its Kawasaki Racing Green
Power? Its a re-skinned DRZ400s...about 2~4 HPs less than the Enduro models. I hear that a BigGun full exhaust system, airbox mod, and re-jetting unleashes more power...and a re-sprocket makes it even better on the trails.
The bike has ~5 miles on it...haven't ridden it much yet. The plan is to ride it AT LEAST 100 miles a day in 2 hour blocks starting TODAY! on pavement to break it in. Then I plan to mount MT1s at ~1000 miles and hit the nearby trails. A buddy wants to take me to Kennedy Meadows and Troy Meadows SOON! where he and his wife went recently on their bikes (trailered, of course). He showed me some awesome pics of the place....I can hardly wait!

There's nothing better than spending time on the trails to bring back childhood memorey's. I till go out and look at the old stomping grounds, that's been filled up with a new developement. "What a waste"
Have a BIG GUN on the KTM along with the airbox mod/jetting tricks to go with it. Seemed to wake up the motor, but they can be a little loud unless you opt for the quiet core version.

...do you know if the 'loud' gun still meets EPA and some USFR(?) decible limit levels?...or should I get the 'quiet' gun?...the stocker sounds pretty throaty inside my garage up against my closed garage door...good for the ears, but probably not good for my overall health, tho ...I could live with the upper limits of the legal noise level (but not too much higher) since there's no tach to gauge where the engine's puttin' at...don't wanna disturb bambi, but willing to spook not-so-gentle-ben

Went to their site [ur]http://www.biggunexhaust.com/[/url] hoping to find some decibal levels. Couldn't locate. As far as what the Forest Service requires, never worried about it out here on the plains. lol

Here's a pic of the new Suzuki 450 to be raced in the All Japan Series. Hopefully Kawi will do the same, but add a EXC model to their line up. Makes it alot easier to street the bike
