DR350 Clutch question...

Okeee... so we picked up a 1997 DR350Z (kick start)... It used to belong to DirtyBill of all people! Anyways.. the bike is in top form but there is something amiss with the clutch... I am looking for some opinions before I take it apart... the engagement seems to be "abrupt".. When you pull the lever in it is smooth 2/3 of the way and then you can feel some sort of a firmness or something that it "passes through" (not sure how to describe this)...

If you are riding the bike it is very difficult to feather the clutch.. it seems like the range is kinda "all or nothing" if ya know what I mean... anyways... I have a manual etc but it never gets down into this kinda detail...

worn basket was my guess (plates hanging up?)... I'd be open to suggestions from people who have more experience diagnosing clutches than I!

Thanks...

by the way I was wondering if anyone knew a manufacturer who made an automatic clutch like this super-cool unit for the DR350 as I would rather buy one of these than use a stocker if I need to change it out...
