Okay.... the DRZ.... picked it up today...a real treat... Trip computer is kinda bizzare and hard to get used to... Discovered that the guy had a 128% compensation in the thing even though he is running stock tires... hmmmmm.... also the Canadian model is missing the "select" button making it impossible for me to flip fropm Km to Mph.... anyone open one of these up to see if it's just a different cover and the switch contacts are in there anyways?
Interesting back to back comparo with the DR650.... motors are pretty much the same although the 400 is smoother... 400 lacks the bizarre "growl" the 650 had but power is almost identical... hard to tell them apart in that aspect...
suspension is awesome... leaps and bounds over the DR650.... like going from a gushy Lincoln to a Porsche....
Very interesting indeed.....
Anyways... the only real bummer was that the d606's that I ordered didnt come and they wont be here til next wednesday.
No biggee I suppose... I have some cleaning and futzing to do with the bike anyhow..

..ya' mean to tell me that the DRZ400 motor is just as strong as the DR650 motor?...man, don't tell me that...I might have to go out and get a KLX400 for nearby off-road mountain excursions....

...I'm sure its a superior dirt bike over the KLR, but I'm guessing that for any long-ass trips, he'll be trailerin' or pickup truckin' to the destination or near the destination...sorta' like how some tall and large owners of 916/996/998/999 Ducs do whe they go to their Ducatista extraveganza...could ride it over the superslab or long-ass 2-lane blacktop, but why torture yourself?...the 400 would be a bike I'd like to get dropped off with at the trailhead...and it'd be legal if I had to go into town for whatever reason...right, fish?

Once you kids are done playing with your little toys step up to a real bike like my XR650R!
Kidding aside glad to hear you got rid of the DR. Those things were old tech slugs 10 years ago. I have a buddy with a brand new Kawazuki KLX400. Electric start is so nice . When the BRP falls over (which it does with alarming frequency) it is a minimum of 12 to clear and start it again. The KLX is nice and light and decent power that doesn't bite you in the ass like the BRP. newbusa has a WR250 that is a great ride as well. Great power delivery and feels like a mountain bike!
Any of these thing suck on the highway. I bought the XR in Kamloops and rode back to PR on it. 23 hrs straight, lots of vibes, never over 100km/h because of range.

I was in Skagit Power Sports today and they had 2 of the new 950 KTMs...............with no price on them..LOL!
They were actually smaller than I thought they'd be. A lot smaller than a behemoth Beemer GS1150. But do you really need a v-twin 950cc bike on logging roads?

...I imagine riding trails and breathing in the scenery doesn't require one to traverese said flora at breakneck speeds, yes?...what would be the purpose of that?...thus my choice for a smooth, light(er), easy to ride thumper...something versatile enough to ride on-road and off-road...not too far on-road (that's what the KLR's for)...something like say a KLX400SR/DRZ400S?...the more I know, the more its hard for me to say "no" to this jewel of a bike...I rode one on-road yesterday...I like!
