Buell doubles @ Fontana
How absolutely cool. Danny Eslick and the Buell spanks them all in both "Sportbike" races. In SoCal, in front of all the big four factories (and Aprilla), right here in their own back yard. It could not have been a longer journey.
It seems like only yesterday when Erik (Buell) started with his RW750. I helped him design the exhaust system for the RR1000, then manufactured the first fifty of them when nobody else would give him the time of day. Erik sacrificed much to help get Buell where it is today. His passion since day one has always been roadracing and he's taken more knocks over the years trying to compete with the Japanese factories than anyone can possibly imagine. Of course it would have been even cooler if the engine was actually being manufactured here. But with so many other innovative ideas on the bike that people continued to "diss", it just makes these victories and journey so much sweeter.
Now it makes me wonder when they will start changing the rules to make sure the Buell does not get any better and/or anymore wins....... ? Congrats to Erik, Danny and everyone else who helped. I'll remember this day for a long time.
