Picked up a scorpion helmet for a shocking $169.00..Cheap for a snell approved lid..And stick's i gotta tell you it's fog free..Also using the fogcity for years i like the fact in the northwest weather that it's fogless..But i always got a bit of fogging around the fogcity visor..My red white black Arai just didn't look right on my blue 14.. liner comes out for washing and the shield is removable without tools..Buddy at the shop told me they have a new carbon fiber one coming out this year..Should be lighter than most..

arai makes some nice stuff, but i think ill stick with my suomy spec1r. suomy realizes that some people have a head larger than 2xl.

last night at the bar, i had a conversation with a friend who is a salesman at a bike dealership. he said something to the effect of, "youll sure look good wearing that expensive helmet while the cops scrape you off the street", and "see if theyll bury you with that fancy $800 lid". kind of fucked up, but i guess the point he was making was, under the extreme circumstances that a $500 helmet will outperform a $200 model, chances are you wont be surviving the crash anyway.

Helmet design was never meant to save you in a high speed crash..But the chances are higher if you don't wear one, At any speed..Only takes approx 18lbs of force to break your cranium..Also most fatal accidents are 55mph or less, Because for some reason people think if there not going fast they dont need a helmet, Or if there just harleying around as a friend puts it..I agree with his comment to a certain degree..One thing i could never understand is how people can buy a 40 thousand dollar custom bike, but insist on a 40 dollar helmet..Hey i guess even when your dead you should look cool ! Please tell me your not drinking at a bar and then riding..How was the beer ?

why?

i guess i could agree with what he said to a point, but as far as helmets go i believe "you get what you pay for". i am very satisfied with my suomy spec1r, and i plan on purchasing another soon. id be interested in an arai if they offered a premium model in a 3xl size, which they dont.

I'm not answering because I can;t be bothered responding to such a poorly placed, misguided statement.

I feel very strongly that an $800 helmet will outperform a crappy cheepo under most, if not all circumstances. Given the extremely short distance your head has to fall to cause permanent brain damage or death, I also dispute the fact that you'd be "scraped off the pavement" before you saw any benefits from wearing an expensive helmet.

it's simply an uneducated statement from a salesman who doesn't know any better... like people telling you all motorcycles are dangerous, or guns don;t kill people etc etc etc.

Heck... why not wear no helmet at all then

(Please note, I am talking about "expensive" models and brands, not "fancy pain jobs" that might make a helmet expensive... in case I also needed to point that bit of obviousness out as well)

If it say's snell approved then it passed the same test as a $600 helmet..Hence Scorpion..

Oh i have a inventory of 4 Arai's and 3 shoei's but was sick of paying some out of country paycheck robbers..And with a little common sense found, Scorpion helmets. So far very happy but keep in mind only a few rides on the new lid and for the money i haven't looked back ..Yet ! Snell and Dot and cycleworld high ratings.

The 400, 700 and 1000 series helmets from scorpion some of the best buys in motorcycle helmets i do believe. We sell Arai,Shoei,HJC,Fulmer,Scorpion,Suomy and some German helmet...........Shubuert or something........I forgot the name. I would have to say the
EXO 1000 from Scorpion is the nicest helmet I have seen for under 500-600 dollars. Very well made.......LOT'S of great features, beautiful interior that's removeable and washable. Flip down sun shield, and it has an air pump for fine adjustment of the cheek pads, that works very well. DOT and Snell approved. Quality lid for around $369.00 retail. The shield can be changed in about 10-15 seconds with the helmet on! The wife and I have Quantums and RX7RR's, Suomy's and AGV's...........and we have always considered Arai's the best helmet you can put on your head. We still do. But when you are the benchmark that everyone is shooting for, eventually the competition starts to catch up. They may not be quite there yet............but the other brands are getting better...........and it is a good thing for the consumer. I still think Arai is the top helmet on the market, and why anyone would want anything but the best for their head is beyond me..............but there are some high quality helmets out there for a lot less cash......and for some that may be their only choice.
