Buell 1125R! Anyone Else Ride one?

This is the 72 Degree V Twin that makes about 150 HP. Rotax made but designed by Erik and his engineers this engine "To me" is better than the Aprilia I rode which uses a different designed engine but made by the same people. I talked to Erik in Sanford about the "Possibility" of this engine making 205 HP and if he thought it could go 200 MPH Plus. He said he will get back to me. I have known Erik since the 70's when he owned Pittsburgh Performance and was a Distributor for Dymag WHeels and raced a Harley 250 CC Road racer with a Yamaha still painted Orange and talked me into keeping my Yamaha Powered Kawasaki Green. It was a lot of fun watching people crashing because they KNEW They were faster than the Kawasaki or the Harley. (I mentioned this so that you will know that if this is possible, he will get back to me! Of course we might have to put Chad or Zack on the Bike to go 200+ but I think it is possible)

I rode the Buell 1125R in Daytona. We went down I-95 for several exits and some twisties and in town riding. It felt like a real motorcycle with the most seriour Front Brake (8 Piston caliper) I have ever had Progressive to begin then Stoppie!. The Rear Brake lever pedal was partly inside the case cover and could only use my Big toe. A re-design is needed here. I rode across some patched pavement and the bike was firm but not harsh. the Handle bars are about 1/2inch lower than a ZX12R and "I" wopuld need them raised at least 1.5 inches to be comfortable.

The engine was very serious and the torque was flat but still a bigger rush above 7,000 RPMS. The Back torque limiter worked about a perfectly as I have ever seen to keep things smooth. Last, the FI was not perfect between 2,500 and 3.500 which I understand is the Part throttle EPA Test area. I actually LIKED the bike enough to buy one if I did not have 7 already!

Another bike that makes me wish I had more money. The brakes scare me a little on a short wheel based bike.I always liked the older models and wished I could have a turbo Buell.

I rode the Air Cooled a few years ago and could always tell when it was time to shift because the Rev Limiter was on in EVERY GEAR! They warned everyone about how good the brakes were on that bike and Compared to a Harley, they were Serious! Bur for the Average Sport Bike rider, NBD! With this attitude and there they were telling everyone about how serious the brakes were we went out! At a small squeeze they had the power of the Older Buells. But with a Harder more serious Squeeze, Even I was impressed and realized that this was Race Track / Road Race Brakes. They were progressive (Like a Turbo coming on the Boost) It was very quick between controll and Lock up! You have to pay attention and be careful! Grabbing a Handfull of Brakes will Put you on your Rear immediately. They claimed thaey did have 1 rider fall from too much brake! (Too myself I was saying Sure they did!) then I realized that even with my skill level I HAD to be careful!

NOTHING about that bike is Harley! Nothing about that bike is Half Way! It feels mostly Italian to me more than anything with maybe a little American Thrown in for good measure!

I can't wait to see the naked version in the next year or two.

Hopefully a serious full fairing(better looking) version will come about someday.

Then again, we may see something A Lot Fuglier! We have seen it happen with A "FEW" companies!!

Actually I think that is their Fully faired version! Think Back to the bike in Australia The Britten it was real fast and had some of the same designs!

For a Naked Bike. that scares me because a throw Back Bike would have to look like a Sportster!
