dot dp tires

...I'll be mounting a set of Kings 966 tires to my KLR soon...5.00x17 rear $56.95....3.00x21 front $36.96...

...have any of you dual-sporters used this set up yet?....I was going to do the Dunlpo 606s, but since most of my riding is pavement I thought I'd try these....treads look beefy and substantial....

Thats the tires I am currently running on my DR650. I am happy with them, especially for the price. On dry asphalt they hold well enough to embarass squidlies on the tight twisties. BUT they feel kinda squirmy on wet asphalt. Off road they work reasonably well in the dry stuff, but in the wet, well, its obvious they ain't no knobby, so they aren't up to serious mud duty. I have 3500 miles on mine and they are around 60% tread remaining.

...that's promising for the type of riding I tend to do...I'm going to put rim locks on and air down when the terrain warrants it...thanks for the feedback

Yeah, I got those tires, new tubes, a set of levers, Harbor Freight tire changer and motorcycle adapter all for less than the cost of taking the wheels in to a shop for new name brand tires.

I hit the timing spot on for a huge discount on the tire changer, it was less than half price.

...stevewiffle, I'm guessing compound and technology are more forgiving for dirt tires than it would be for street tires, thus the relative lower costs....and maybe there are more off-road bikes than there are on-road bikes, again resulting in lower costs...but there are some rather expensive dirt tires out there in the ~$80-~$120 per tire range, up there with some decent street tires...again, I'm guessing...
