Salt Flats and top speed runs

I'm a newbie to top speed runs (the legal kind) And have NO experience runnning on the salt.
That being said, its my goal to go to Bubs in Sept. and give 200mph a try in the runwatchabrung class with my ZX-14.
So I'm asking you who have been there done that to share your knowledge on high speed riding technics etc.
On what I need for the bike is pretty well cover by Brock sharing his info and the 14s forums.
I'm mainly posting here to acquire info and skills.
Thanks, TC

Sit on the seat and twist the tube!!! It is great fun. Somewhat akin to going fast on a wet road. Make no sudden steering imputs. Make sure you have a quality steering dampner, lower the bike for better aero. Stock tires are fine at 40lbs. Practice your tuck in the garage with someone in front of the bike to tell you what is sticking out. One final warning. IT IS VERY ADDICTIVE. I bet you won't go just once. Good Luck and have fun. LSL

What else has to be done to the bike other than steering damper? Metal chain guard, safety wire???

Umm one thing landspeedlarry shoulda covered: gearing. my dad used to landspeed run on salt, he said (and i've read it in numerous car and bike magazines) that you must gear your vehicle for ALOT higher rear wheel speeds than you plan to run. For a heavy car, for instance, if you want to hit 150mph gear it to hit an indicated 180mph. for 210 (his best run) he geared it for 250mph, had it at 245mph at rear tire to go 210 real mph. spin baby spin. It has too be much worse and issue on a bike with less downforce, I'm just guessing here, but if you had enough power to do 200mph I would gear it for 250mph rear tire speed minimum. good luck finding them sprockets, though. Also, you will need at least 275 HP to reach 200mph on salt or street. Ignore those loudmouths that claim a 14 will do it stock, it won't, mine with no aircleaner or mirrors, with +1 on front sprocket hits a GPS 192mph. Read the September issue of Superbike magazine, they went 204mph on a 325HP turbo ZX14. said with right gearing (they were 2 up in front) 325HP should enable 210-215mph. The real world truths hurt. Of course, my 14 has half the drag of a 911 Porsche. HALF!!! Think about it: it would take about 600HP to make that porsche do 200mph, therefore it would take aprx. 300HP to make my bike do 200mph (ruff math, more involved than that I'm sure but I know I'm close). I will hit 200mph one dang day on my 14, just will take some NOS up her nose to get there! And on pavement, not a salt fan on a bike. Sorry LandSpeedLarry salt aint my thing! And Larry, back up what I just said for the stubborn ones who refuse to believe there RC51 can't do 200 stock. Jeez I'm tired of debunking that one....
