...street-motard material...just add beefier front suspension, bigger petal radial mounted front brakes, sporty 17" wheels/tires, under-engine exhaust...call it SMR650...paint mine black...

Disappointed they didn't use the new vertical twin 650 motor.

maybe they're trying to keep some critical parts interchangable with the older model to take advantage of the almost worldwide availability of KLR650 parts?

NO WAY! They actually changed the look!

Looks like pretty much like the same bike underneath- the rotors look different, swingarm is different, headlight looks vastly improved and I can't quite tell whats going on behind the new and improved belly pan/engine guard but the exhaust, engine, frame, most other stuff looks the same.

Me likey the new look- front end looks awesome. It had to happen sooner or later......

i can't help but wonder about the headlights tho... they say they're much brighter thanks in part to the new 36W generator, but what can you run on 36W?!? that's 1 not very bright buld and barely enough to run the ignition (if that). or maybe they mean 36W net? regardless, u'r not gonna get sportbike bright headlights out of that. makes me wonder how people with auxiliary lighting power their lights? is there a common generator upgrade done to old KLRs?

It would look good in supermotard form IMO.

This looks great! I've been thinking about the BMW F650GS for awhile, but I don't really care for the price. I wonder what the new seat height will be and the weight. This is why I didn't get a KLR because of the high seat. I need to call the local Kawi dealer to see when they might have one coming in so I can take a seat!

Old school, new school. I like what Kawi has done, but the question is will all the after market stuff (besides the body work) out there still fit.

If I had the funds I'd think about getting a new KLR650. But I'm still having fun making upgrades and riding my '02 KLR650.

Hey Kevinindel, there's items that will lower the present KLR's. I've lowered my '02 2 inches. Just right for my 32" (pants size) inseam with the stock seat. Corbin has a seat that will take it down another inch.

Kawasaki hasn't released a mrsp yet but my dealer and agreed on $6900. If their price ends up higher, they will eat the difference. Lower, and they'll give me a break on some accessories.

...Kawasaki should make a lowered, street-wheeled/tired version....don't have to call it motard, just install street calibrated suspension with 17x5.5 rear wheel /17x3.5 front wheel...and appropriate tires...

The local dealer here (alberta canada) said they only went up $100. Freight, delivery, tax comes to $7404.10. Then he gives a $250 coupon for accesories. Said he should be able to deliver some time in April. The bike is shown on the Canadian Kawasaki web site. Thats .ca for you south of the border. That should only be up about $80 US
