Land rush at Laguna Wed. afternoon
(cut & pasted from SF, CA bike site)
4:30 Wednesday, who's in line at Laguna? EVERYONE!. Nobody is allowed in (Reserved or non-reserved sites) to get to their campsites until tomorrow when they open the gates at 6am. There are at least 300+ cars in front of me streaching to the SCRAMP office at the front straight (~a mile.)
I'd called last Friday and confirmed that camping is/would be permitted but the sites were controlled by the Monterey County folks for non-race weekdays and weekends. Guess the, um, -anitcipated- crowd is changing their plans already...

defintiely not what i remember seeing when we arrived wed lat eafternoon, 6pm maybe? was no lineup... maybe the problem has been figured out by then. organization was unfortuantely lacking, that's for sure. hopefulyl the lessons learned frmo this year will make for near flawless execution next year. they sure did a good job of teh porta potties inteh camping areas this year tho. no overflowing etc. enough showers to not be a lineup and they were cleaned (tho they got gross pretty quick). i think there was just a lack of planning or manpower for access control, esp till thurs eve.
