Good advise if you are going to be participating in a protest, whether it is a legal permit issued event or otherwise.
I have been given similiar advice for attending an event.

The smell of pachouli(sp?) oil and their work ethic (or lack thereof) usually make me hate them.

Is it worth the dollars to keep a prepaid attorney on retainer, and just call him if you get pulled over and hand the phone to the officer and let them figure it out right there before the citation is issued?

Heres my advice on dealing with THE MAN...

Stay away from problem areas.
Stay away from problem people.
Dont speed more than 10mph over the limit.
Pay attention to street traffic signs.
Remember HE'S THE MAN, so dont give him attitude.

From my experience:

If you get questioned by THE MAN... COOPERATE, your just helping yourself !!!
If you know you were speeding and THE MAN asks you, say your sorry I wasnt paying attention and cooperate...You have a 50/50 chance of getting a warning...Same goes for traffic signs...

Even if THE MAN is pissed off and taking it out on you, then kill him with kindness!!!

If THE MAN does give you a summons anyway, take it like a man and think of all the times you didnt get caught...

Just trying to help you guys out...OK, now you can make fun of my comments!!!

Yes them to death and smile. Be polite and never try to push them off the International Speedway bridge in Daytona when they are ticketing you and turn their back on you.

That is simply not true. That is propanganda put out by the law to make questioning potential suspects easier. They will tell you that if you co-operate, he/she will let the judge know you were agreeable and will get you a lighter sentence...that is an outright lie. The judge is solely responsible for sentencing, and not with the input of the police. What is the worst that the police can tell the prosecutors or the judge? "He/she was not co-operative" is as bad as it gets. At least in Canada it's this way....

Never admit to anything. Period. You don't really know why he pulled you over....it could be mistaken identity, a burned out tail light bulb, whatever. If the police ask you if you know why they pulled you over, reply "I have no idea". He will tell you why...and it may surprise you. To tell him why you think he pulled you over is called an inculpatory confession......."I was speeding", "it's that bag of weed in my pocket, isn't it?", "I swear, she told me she was sixteen"....etc.

If the cop tells you that you were speeding, he may be fishing....if he quotes a number, it is more likely they have actual data on your speed. Without the number it may be his observation that you were speeding, but he is not a calibrated machine that can be used to determine velocity. If he gives you a ticket based on his observation of speed, don't say anything, sign the ticket, observe the time and date of the alleged offence, and start taking notes on the spot. note his position relative to the road and your vehicle (there is such a thing as a parallax error, which is when the observer is not 90 degrees to the observed....which gives a false sense of scale......it's like looking at a ruler from an angle other than 90 and then marking a measurement....it's almost always wrong). If you have a digital camera with you, take photos. When you get home, call your lawyer or one of these oganizations that speciallize in fighting tickets, and retain them. Every ticket is fightable....even when they have actual hard data.....but you must have good notes (taken on the scene at the time this happened) in order for your legal team to be most effective. If the police don't show up on the court date....the case is dismissed. If there is any incorrect data (date, time, even incorrect criminal code violation number, etc) the ticket is invalid. Even calling into queation the training (or "unbiased nature" )of the officer that ticketed you, will work.

Do not suck this guys' dick. Often these guys revel in the power they have been given by the state/province and when you grovel you just prove all of the things he despises about the masses. Be polite, but you have no reason to do more. If you have to suck dick to get out of a ticket......was it worth your dignity? I would rather die on my feet, than live on my knees (Emilio Zapata....Mexican freedom fighter)

I say to cooperate because you have the 50/50 chance of getting let go, never having to go to the court to see the judge...
LOL...Never admit to anything???...It's ok, because a traffic infraction is not a real crime!!!LOL...Dude, your not sucking his dick if you kill him with kindness!!!...They are just expressions!!!

Doing what you can to get out of a ticket while sounding sincere, will go further then telling him I wasnt speeding when he says he caught you going 80 in a 60...Or you can just tell him to just give me the ticket and save the lecture for someone else...

Sure, dont tell the cop that you were speeding, but dont tell him that you have no idea what you were doing...Everyone knows what they do...

Im just suggesting a different way of talking to a cop that he does not hear often!!!...Maybe he will give you the benefit of the doubt???...Since he's not listening to complete bullshit or complete lies...

Good Luck everyone!!!

I never suggested to lie to the cop, but fessing up for what you think is the reason he/she pulled your over is foolish. Sure, everyone knows what they do, but do you know what he's looking for??? NO!

he says: "Do you know why I pulled you over"

Your response: " No sir"

Co-operation does not give you a 50/50 chance....not in my experience. Obviously, hostility is not going to help, but smarmy co-operation and enthusiam about this process will not work well. Maybe cops in the US are different, but RCMP tend to be pretty unmovable.

Statements like "sorry, I wasn't paying attention" have the potential to open up another avenue of interogation....ie: driving without due care and attention . You'd have better luck with saying the sun made your speedometer illegible.

So...it's just a ticket, eh?? Are you sure?? If you get caught for some super high speed situation it is not just a ticket (at least here) or there are some fines here for stunting that are stiff enough that you don't want to admit anything.. You are going directly to jail.....but what if he was not even looking for you....but a bike that looked similar to yours....he pulls you over and accuses you of something....deny, deny, deny. That's it. The burden of proof is on them.

in teh cage that may be true, but i think riding a bike that's often not the case. i can't safely keep my eyes on teh speedo at all times, and it only takes a few seconds to hit 10 or 20 or more over without even realizing it IME. most of the time when i was pulled over on my bike, the reported speed was at leat 10km over what i thought i was doing.

as to cooperation... u always see on TV how cops give breaks to people cause they're cooperative & pleasant, or at least don't bust their balls cause of it, but my experience also doesnt agree. i've always been cooperative and never mouthed back or anything, but never had a warning of any kind. that may well just be me tho; i'm accused of seeming arrogant at the best of times.

...ask me what I think about your fancy shiny crotchrocket (except frEEK's )...and tell me that you were not paying attention as you should have and that very you're sorry and that you'll never do it in my presence again(*nod nod wink wink*) 'cuz I know that's what you'll do anyway...don't act as if you didn't know what you were doing...it makes you lose any and more credibility for every word that comes out of your mouth after that and I'll never believe you or give you the benefit of the doubt (ie. the much coveted 'break')...BUT if you were behaving in such a manner that it obviously endangered the safety and lives of others, then all bets are off...you're mine...if I can catch you...I really don't care all that much if you crash on your own and hurt or kill yourself, but I get pissed if what you did hurt or killed the innocents...

...and please....no donut jokes or telling me to go arrest real criminals...because I give equal opportunity to real as well as fake criminals...I am your full-service equal opportunity law enforcement officer
