well, if it's not a four-stroke Twin, not a two-stroke Twin, not a Triple, not a Five, and not a bored-and/or-stroked variant of the ZX-6R mill, and we know damn well that it won't be a V-4, a Wankel, or whatever; then what can it be but a new inline Four design in this displacement range, or less interestingly a destroked 10R?
Actually, in coming up with possibilities, a 750 Triple derived from the 10R motor made good sense to me. Probably why it won't be done. Would be very narrow and light with good power for a 750.
(And for that matter, for a 500 a V-Twin derived from the 10R, or a 600 from the 12R, would likewise make a lot of sense. A nice Supermoto or beginner sportbike mill I'd think.)

...if I was on a very limited budget and wanted a street oriented bike, the SV650 would be IT...no ifs, ands, or buts...that is one hellova bargain and a bike...sounds nice, too with an aftermarket slip-on...
...and a do-it-all bike is the KLR650, which I already have, and I suspect, will always have one from now on in one form or another...

I'm not saying the SV650 is a loser -- it's not -- but that doing a "me too" by borrowing that same engine would be pretty boring, and Kawasaki has the means to do better.
However, might it be done out of cheapness? A logical possibility, very logical especially if the purpose is a more "budget-oriented" bike with decent but not supersport-performance!

...if Kawasaki or Suzuki had the means to do anything, why would they merge their technology and development?...and the motorcycle world does not revolve around mega horsepower super fast sportbikes...there are TONS more 'other' bikers out there on more 'reasonable' bikes than those who crave the fastest and the strongest...
..."me too" may be boring, but I imagine it helps keep them afloat so that they can channel funds, focus, and energy on other truely new stuff for us to keep us from getting bored...aaaccckkkk!...I dunno, these are just a wild-hair guesses....

Kawi definately needs an "entry" level bike other than the EX series. There are lots of riders or potential riders that don't want "crotch rockets" that would by a SV based bike. Suzuki has proven that.

I'm not sure a 250 or 500 ninja is any more of a crotch rocket then an SV. Or in other words, that an SV is any less of a crotch rocket then the little ninjas
