Trade a 12 for a 10? I was looking at a UK moto magazine the other day at the local Hastings, and when comparing the two, for the same price, the 12 weighs more and only makes 5hp more then the 10. Of course it didnt say anything about the torque, just the hp.
Is it worth trading a 12 in for a 10?
Personally, I dont think I could trade my 12 in. I have too much tied up into it, warranty, Dino's work, and it is the first real bike I have ever had that has met all my needs. I love my 12, and I went into it knowing I would keep it forever, never sell it no matter what.
If anything, a couple years from now I'll go out and buy a 10 and keep my 12.
But are any of you considering ridding your 12 and trading it in for a 10?
Needs a life
Full throttle!

What year of 12 do you have? The 2000 is only worth about $4300 trade in.

Beans, if you were never planning on selling your 12, then the value of your bike is how much it means to you. You said it was the first bike that met all of your needs. Sounds pretty valuable to me. If you are buying a motorcycle for resale value then buy a Harley. They have the best resale value. And they are fun. As matter of fact, a Harley is the best bike I ever road, sitting at a traffic light.

Excactly, zeta. Buy what ya want to ride, how ya want to ride, and enjoy. If you ride enough, the enjoyment of it will prove to be worth twice what ya paid for it.
I bought my '00 new,ran the hell out of it for a couple years,totaled/bought it back/rebuilt,and it still runs/rides super.Prob worth about 1500 by now.I't fits me and my riding style, and I'll never give it away(sell).Keep it ,Beans, sounds like you truly love that mighty beast.you'll be sorry if ya let it go.The new and great sportbikes will never have 12r-style torque across the tach.Anything goes like hell when ya wring the piss out of em.

I could not have said it better myself...it really is the first bike I have ever owned that met all my needs right from rolling it out of the dealer. I love my 12, and my 12 really lets me enjoy my passion of riding motorcycles.
A 10 I want, later though, and it will be an addition to my 12.

Keep the 12.... even though "they" tell you it's only werth a couple of grand.. try going to a dealer to replace it with a new one.... oh guess what... it costs the SAME as a 10R!

10 is more cutting edge and likely higher demand, so they can get away with charging more. can't say im surprised. unless u mean the 12 should be cheaper since it's an older design. i remember a few years ago the liter bikes were all abotu 14,500, and the 12 was only 1G more, so again, i'm not surprised.

To trade a 12 for a 10, would have to be a personal preference of what you want from a motorcycle...
Lets use a Busa and Gixxer 1000 as comparison...My preference is the Busa because it has more grunt, more stable at high speed, handles the bumpy-pothole filled streets of NYC better...The 1000 is too light in the front end and too much vibration for me...
I would think that the difference between the 12 and 10 would be similar...

12RPilot - I agree with jw. And incrediably, I have a bidding war going on right now for my '03 12. I ran a teaser ad just to see what would happen. I received 11 calls from Friday - Sunday. I've got a guy from LA, and another from Vegas litterly fighting over it. The Vegas guy sent me a cashiers check today for a $1000 to hold it until he can drive down Saturday. Hate to tell ya, but he's paying $8500 cash.
From everything I've seen, I got about as much as you can get for a used semi-stock 12. Best part is, I can now fit the 10 in my garage (to go along with the RC51, F4I, YZ450, YZ250, YZ125, CRF250, CRF50, JS550, 750SX). Hate to see the monster go, but like jw says, I'm also a dedicated knee dragger.
Besides, I can always borrow a new 12 from XL. Right buddy??? Pal?????? Sweetheart..... Rotten son-of-a-................... He never shares like he should......

of course, i'm sure u hate me equally for the impressive collection of supermodels i keep, tho they are in my bedroom, not the garage

I'm thinking about selling my 00 12, to a friend for 7,500.00 in order to buy a 10R. The problem is that I want a chopper, and have been meaning to go look at a big dog, or even buying a Harley and tricking it out. If I buy either one I must have a sport bike. But man the 10 is really tempting, I would give up 2 of my women and 2 of the women they have for that bike. I think the 10 just might kick ass and not leave doubt!!!!!!

Ok look. The 12 is officially gone and I've been without a green bike since Saturday. Starting to have withdrawls...... I'm gettin tired of flogging this CBR1000RR. Where's my 10 XL? Brother... Friend..... Pal-o-mine............
