Good talking to you to, I definitely appreciate it. I'll keep bothering my friend as to when he is getting the turn signals.

Cool, we are out for a snow day today. I shovelled the driveway and took my shower, almost ready to go in to work and got the call that we were not to report to work this morning. I wish that the call had been made last night before I got all pumped up to do the damn thing. Oh well, now I can watch a DVD or play PS2 (MotoGP3).

Peace,
JB

Well, back at work today, roads are not bad at all. We had a 1000 hrs start time just to be safe, peole still piled their cars up though, they had to close the interstate (64East) because a dump trunk turned over. How this happen one will never know. Anyway, it's time to get productive.

Peace,

Was it on Hampton side of the tunnel/bridge or the Norfolk side? Anyway, it's the same as always, when I was there they had to close 85 because of the massive ice storm in 2000 and we didn't have to go into work for like 3 days. Have fun.

85, sounds like the Hampton side. All is back to normal now, wishing I was over there. Oops, my daughter just decided to get me back, she caught me while I was typing and decided to fart on my leg. Ahh, 4 years old, a great age for the kids. I think I need to pay more attention to her.

Peace,
JB

Actually it was a dry one, two as a matter of fact and funny as heck. That is why she does it, she's a little tom-boy anyway. And big into mototrcycles, I had her and her older sister on the bike when they were both a year old. Mommy wasn't real excited, but she got over it.

1bad7, getting the Euro signals is actually part of my dealwith my salesman. As soon as I find a source, they pay for it. Signals and sliders are two of the first three items I want ( the other being the damper).

As for tires, I figure it's gonna be like the D207 200/50 that was on the '00 12R. When it came time to replace my first rear tire, the only way I could get one was to order it through a KMC part number. None of the other distributors (MAW, PU, TR, etc.) had them.

T've already had my dealer set aside two sets of Corsas.

Have you read about the D207RR's? Sounds interesting, grip of the 208 and I hope at a lower price.

I used to be Dunlop's biggest fan going back to my '97 ZX-7R. On that bike, I had tried the old versions of Bridgestone's Battleax, Avon's Azero and Pirielli's Dragon. Though each of those other brands had some aspects that were better than my original 204's, none were nearly as predictable for the life of the tire as those good ole Dunlops. Even when the 204 became the 207. Over the 69,000 miles I put on the 7R, I easily went through 70+ front and rear tires.

Fast forward four years later, where both the tire technology and what bike I own has changed.

My 12R came with 207s. Over time, everyone was swearing by Bridgestone's BT010s, but I stuck with the 207s for almost 20,000 miles. Even after switching to a 185/55 on back.

During one of the Deal's Gap events, Lucky 12 introduced me to the Pilot Sports. As soon as I got home, I tried a set. I was stunned! The grip was killer. Literally. After scuffing them in, I went on one of my favorite twisties and while exiting a corner, I whacked the throttle and almost shot off the road. I had grown so accustom to the slipping of the Dunlops, I had tailored my riding style around it. Though I'm no Gary McCoy, my bike was acting as if I was with the Dunlops. Strangely, not only was the grip of the Pilot Sports better than my old 207s, they actually lasted longer too. Up to 400 miles long on the back end.

When I switched to the 7R swingarm on my 12R, I was kinda back at square one. All my suspension and tire pressure settings that took so long to figure out, got officially thrown out the window. After months of tweaking and changing this and that (which included different tire sizes up front, different fork oil levels and weights, fork locations, etc.), it got better, but hardly perfect. The front end seemed to feel vague and would slightly push in the corners. During another Gap trip, Lucky 12 introduced me to the Diablo Corsas. Again, when I got home, I switched to the Pirelli's.

Right before I put them on, one of my riding buddies had switched from the BT010 to the Diablos. He hated them. Lucky for me, that was just a reminder that I wanted to get the Diablo CORSA and not just the Diablos. Back when I switched to the Pilots, I swore I'd never run another Dunlop product on any street bike of mine. Dunlop's dirt bike tires are still okay, but I am looking into the new Michelin StarCross tires for my 14 year old KDX 200. When I did switch to the Corsas, it was just another reason not to switch back on my 12R. If anything, it wouldn't be worth switching to the 208 for just the hassles of resetting up the suspension and sag. In other words, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Even if the 207RR had a better grip than the 208, since no one was really screaming about how the 208 grip was so superior over the old 207, I can't see any serious reason on switching back to Dunlops just to find out. I'd put Pilot Sports back on before I'd put any version of Dunlops back on. IMHO, Dunlop would have to make a quantum leap in grip to even compare to even the BT010. Then it would have to make an equally big leap to get close to the Pilots, Metzeler's Sportec M-1 or Diablo Corsa. I'm hard pressed in seeing that happen, but that just the opinion of a very slow rider... me.

As for the stickier DOT race tires like the Super Corsas, Rennsports or Pilot Sport H2, I'd love to run just about any of them. I did run a set of Rennsports during one Gap visit and got close to 1,500 miles out of a rear tire. I figure I'd see similar mileage out of the others as well. During the riding season (usually early March to late October), I might do over 1,500 in less than 3 weekends. At that rate, running a DOT race tire is just not within my budget. Even with getting a decent discount on my tires and I mount and balance them myself (using my dealer's equipment.

The new 218 might be the cat's meow, but even if they were "specifically designed" for the ZX-10R, considering what Dunlop has produced in the past, that's not saying much. After all, wasn't the 200/50 207 designed specifically for the 12R? It was one of the first tires to have a steel instead of nylon belt, specifically for the power of the 12R. Even other manufacturers followed Dunlop's lead and started producing similar steel belted tires for today's hyperbikes. Still, I'm still not impressed. Even with the versions from the other manufacturers. I saw little to no difference in Michelin's HPX version of their Pilot Sport and that of there "plain ole" Pilot Sport. Except the cost, of course. It's just that bikes ranging from MotoGP to AMA Superbike have run with plain ole nylon belts for years and not only do these bikes put out more power than your average 12R, there hasn't been any problems (for the most part) in not running a steel belt. In other words, it's more "hype" than "fact" IMHO.

SO.... as I said earlier, when it comes time to change tires on my new ZX-10R, odds are that no one else will have them but by dealer ordering them through KMC. I'd prefer not to pay an outrageous price to KMC or wait for the other distributors to start selling 218s. It just pisses me off even more when bike manufacturers start using "model specific" versions of a certain brand of tire on their bike. As in the case of some Hondas and others. That's just total BS. Refusing to fall prey to such, I'll stick to what has worked in the past. Especially when I can score a two sets of tires for the price of one (RE: Pirelli's recent tire special sale) AND not have to pay for them until I actually use them. If something else comes along that is supposedly better than the Diablo Corsas or if they just don't seem to work on my new 10R, I'll be more than willing to try a different brand. I just doubt if that brand will be saying "DUNLOP" on the sidewall.

I'm still waffling on whether or not to wait out the first year's production. I don't think there's going to be too much of a problem getting one, as there are at least 3 dealers in my area that are getting 10 each.

I will keep bothering him to see when I can get some. What's your price for the corsa's? If it's good enough I want a set as well, after using them on my GSXR 750 for both street and track and getting far more use out of them then I thought, somebody has got to come up with something really substantial to sway me from their use. I, like you, don't really have too much faith in the Dunlops', so I'm already skeptical of the 218's and I haven't even used them yet, but we'll see.

Since I already have two sets of fronts and rears set aside for me at my dealer's, maybe we can work something out on those Euro turn signals, eh?
